The fat kid in the mirror

People keep telling me I look great, and when I look at pictures of myself, I usually can see that I look good. But sometimes (Ok, most the time) I still feel like the fat kid. I still look at myself in the mirror and I see fat rolls at my belly!
I never understood anorexic people before. I never understood people with self esteem issues, and body image issues, because before, it was so easy. I looked in the mirror and saw a fat person, and I WAS a fat person. Everyone else saw a fat person too. So it was ok. I totally get it now.
But now that I am healthy and fit, I need to change how I see myself. When you are trying to get a girl, Looks just gets you the interview, personality is what matters after that.
I guess what I am saying is that everyone sees the worst part of themselves. I have several MFP friends that see themselves as having a ton more work to do, and I think they are gods gift to mankind, and my perfect body type.
Love the body you have, and all the work you put into it. I'm going to come to grips with my body, and this here is my Pledge: On September 10 or 11th (whichever day I sign up for) I am going to run the Warrior Dash in Portland Oregon, wearing nothing but a banana hammock.
I really hope it's warm that day. For more reasons than one.
**Edit** I got a request for me to wear the cowboy hat in the warrior dash. Votes please?

YOU CAN DO IT!
and i get how you feel when you look in the mirror
so i will set a goal too...0 -
No hat (and therefore no stress on keeping it on your head or extra heat from it)
Also it made me very sad to read this.0 -

So well said. It's sad, but true.
(EDIT: That sounds off. The sad part is that looks are the first step. It should be personality all through. Does that make better sense? Argh, nvm.)
That sounds like it's going to be funAnd if you do wear that hat, better make sure it's strapped on tight or else it's going to be flying off!

Why did it make you sad?0 -

Because I think you have worked very hard, are still working very hard, and look great. You're healthy now and it just makes me so sad to think you aren't able to appreciate how things have changed.0 -
Av, you need to get a new mirror or something. All I see is a cowboy hottie, who all the ladies love!!
That being said... what time does the race start?? I need to book my plane ticket...
Vote yes for the cowboy hat!!!0 -
I 100% know what you mean!!! I do the same thing always! I have actually had friends argue with me and get angry telling me that I don't need to lose weight, but I don't see what they are talking about!
You look great and your hard work is paying off!
Keep it up!
Hugs and encouragement!

I understand this post completely. Its hard to see yourself any different than how you always did before. I always see a big fat whale looking at me in the mirror. I hate that *****.0

Awesome plan! And the cowboy hat as required. As well as pictures.0

You know what's really weird about me? The bathroom mirror at home, I ALWAYS look like I'm 170lbs in that mirror. When I was 186lbs, I looked 170. I'm 154lbs now and I still look 170 in that mirror.
But in pictures, or in any other mirror (especially mirrors outside of my house), I look about my weight. It's so weird. There has got to be some weird psychological explanation for this!0 -
I know what you mean. If all the comments are to be believed I look so much better than 6 months ago, but I've still struggled to see more than a fatty in the mirror.
I'm sure you will rock that banana hammock!0 -

I think the hat would add something.
But I half know what you mean. I still see the bits of me I don't like in the mirror, but the biggest thing is with clothes. Every morning I pick up my jeans and get a total panic they have shrunk in the wash, because there's no way those will fit me. And then I put them on with no problems, some 27s are even loose on me, but I still can't shake that feeling just before that there's no way I'll fit into those.0 -
So far, I think the hat is winning. Girls love guys in cowboy hats0
