Well thanx to a lovely post by Linda "Critcal Carb Level". I just realized why I haven't be able to lose as many pounds as I wanted. CARBS. :noway:

As for myself I've always known that I'm a big bread and pasta eater but had no idea that regardless of how much I would workout in the gym it would not make a hill of beans if I didn't/don't cut back on the carbs...:brokenheart:

So in awe I did some webcrawling to find out a little bit more information.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_grams_of_carbs_are_recommended_per_day
http://nutrition.about.com/od/askyournutritionist/f/howmanycarbs.htm
http://www.freedieting.com/tools/nutrient_calculator.htm?cals=2380

Needless, to say I am defintely in for a long haul struggle filled with temptation and worry...:frown:

The recomended intake for the recomened calorie intake for 2,000 is 250g but my diet is set to 1500.

So...
1. I'm eating more carbs than needed
2. In order to lose body fat it's recomened that I consume 20-70 grams
3. And from the article by wiki if I don't want to lose weight I should consume 180-230 grams and I've been doing more than that!!! :indifferent: :ohwell:
4. I have to cut back on the carb intake and I have no idea on how to do this with out going crazy....
5. How am I'm going to make a meal plan for this....(Ask my MFP fam)

Please help I have no idea on how I'm going to be able to do this. Three to four meals a day with barely any carbs. This is hard...for me.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated and received.

First things first. Cutting carbs doesn't make you lose weight or burn fat if you aren't watching your calorie intake as well. You still have to eat at a deficit in calories to lose weight. Now you can do a body recomp by eating low carbs and eating at your maintenance level.

You first need to find out what your BMR is (Basic Metabolic Rate), and then find out your activity level to determine what your maintenance is.

I am doing the 17 day diet (no, you are not only on a diet for 17 days). It is a low-carb diet and for the 1st 17 days, you get NO carbs. After the 1st 17 days, carbs are introduced back into your diet. I am also a carb-lover and I never thought I'd be able to do this diet. However, it's very easy to follow and I am never hungry. As a matter of fact, I find it difficult to get 1,200 calories in a day. I lost a total of 12 lbs so far since I started watching what I eat. I started the 17 day diet this past Monday (7/11) and in 6 days on thie diet, I lost 5.4 lbs. I hope this helps. Good luck!
  • If you want to cut back on carbs I have found the best thing to do is fill up on lean protein and veggies. You don't want to cut carbs out, this site is all about everything in moderation. Try to add lean chicken, tuna fish and beef to your meals (not all at once hahaha) also, eggs are great! They keep you full and are pretty low in calories. Some people may tell you to only eat the whites, but I love the yolk! Also, egg beaters are great for making omlettes, just pour the liguid (I like egg beater egg whites, with a touch of yolk you can find this kind at the store) in a pan sprayed w/ Pam, then add any veggies you like and even a little cheese. Also, 2% cottage cheese, or non-fat if you like that kind. Good luck, I'm a carb addict myself!!

I do 35-40% carbs and that allows me more protein and fat. I don't like going to low on carbs. I have my goal set at 1200 and exercise about 5 days a week.

Thanx pattitricia85. I agree moderation is the key. I don't/can't forsee myself going to the extreme with this but I will try to keep within the recommend goal for weight loss

Low carb is good to loose weight if you stay within your calorie allowance which should be easy to do. Here are some ideas for meals.

Egg omelette w/cheese and turkey bacon.
    Fish or any meat
    Lots of vegetables
    Some fruits.
I love peanut butter or almond butter on celery.

Here is a carb counter http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/Data/SR16/wtrank/sr16a205.pdf
