The Sound of the Voice Behind The Picture

Just having a cuppa and thinking. Now this may sound stupid but please bear with me here....

I was mulling over a recent conversation I had with someone on a different website, when I stopped and thought I'm going over this conversation with an Australian accent! Based on the accent, I then wondered how they spoke and the pitch of their voice and if that's how they sounded in reality. I'd assigned a deep husky voice to this person however they may have a high pitched voice for all i know...

Now, I don't know about everyone else, but I'd built up this picture and naturally given this person an accent and a SOUND to their voice that seemed to fit with their personality based on the comments and conversations that had been exchanged.

BUT just how many of us out there have had conversations with our MFP friends and imagined the accent and sound/pitch of their voice.

Now bear in mind accents play a big part depending on where in the world you are from.

For example if you get chatting to someone from England for instance, you may SEE their comments but instinctually READ the comment with an English accent, however if they were from Yorkshire, England, you may READ their comments with a Yorkshire Accent/Tone without even realising it......if that makes sense.

However, it's the tone / pitch / sound that you may also imagine.

The same works vice versa - if you were blindfolded and listened to a persons voice and the sound - you would build up a picture of what you think they might LOOK like and their age.

Think about it.....What voice have you given your MFP friends.....

I've assigned voices to my MFPals, but I really do wonder what they sound like. I think the voice really adds to the perception of personality.

    Cool....I was hoping I wasn't the only one.....otherwise I'd think i was cuckoo.

Interesting point to raise though, don't you think...

Maybe we should do a Rate the Sound of the Voice Behind the Picture thread....?

Just for an example....based purely on your profile Pic shown here, I'd say MisterDubs you have a squeaky, cartoony voice...

BUT, looking at your ACTUAL pic in your photo library - I'd guess you may have a deep voice. Or is your voice squeaky?

I really don't know. Hence the point raised.

It sounds really interesting that you assign voices to the posts that you read from your friends. This thread has made me realise that i do something pretty weird to in that in my head everyone has the same accent as me no matter where they are from...
    Strange i know!

I just had this conversation with someone yesterday! I wonder about it too. Based off age, personality and place they live.... I make assumptions on their voices too. Theres a few people that I bet have really cool accents and Id love to see if Im right! haha

I've met 2 of my MFPals in person and had imagined their voices perfect, the way they speak is exactly how they came across in their posts on MFP. I have also had conversations on the phone with some of my MFPals, the females usually match what I imagined, but the males? I seem to give every male a deeper, scratchy voice...I'm always wrong with guys.

Pleased i started this thread now - its been interesting.

I too, give men a deep voice. Don't know about scratchy though. Especially if they look attractive and their personalities are awesome I tend to imagine that they have a real nice deep husky voice...maybe a little bit of Barry White....ish?

I love a guy with a deep husky voice...

Anyways, cheers for the responses so far. at least i know I haven't gone mad.
