I went for my stage 2 induction today.
My trainer would only let me do 10 minutes on the treadmill and 5 minutes on the exercise bike
I was really looking forward to using the cross trainer and the rowing machine

Then, my trainer told me that he wants me NOT to weigh myself for 5 weeks!!!!:noway: How am I supposed to :noway: NOT do that!?!?!?!? I weigh myself daily - almost as though I have to or I cannot function throughout the day!

Then, as if this wasn't enough, I went to the changing room, got my towel and toiletries - only to find the showers were communal :noway: I have to share the one cubical with 3 others :noway: :grumble:

I decided, as I only live 10 minutes away, I'd come home and use my own!

I'm gonna get on my elliptical this afternoon - no way can I be content with only 15 minutes exercise !

If I was told not to weigh myself for 5 weeks I would have to toss my scale in the trash

If it's really important, bargain with your trainer. Only weigh in once a week. See if the trainer will accept that deal.

Why so little time on the treadmill and elliptical? How long have you been using the treadmill and elliptical previously? I'm sure your trainer has some rationale here, but what is it??
  • 5 weeks is a little much. I would accept once a week. The idea is for you not to get discouraged by the daily ups and downs or when you think you've done well and you hadn't lost any weight. It kind of like watching kids grow, if you see them every day you don't see it as much as when you don't see them it's like wow... And where on earth do you live that they still have communal showers?

actually I don't own a scale, I only weigh when I feel like it at the gym...that's why so many MFP challenges I joined that want weekly weights just don't kick it for me anymore.

I used to be SO caught up in ONLY the numbers....broke that habit and now pay more attention to how I feel during a cardio class, strength training, running up the stairs (wow, it was a great day last year when I actually realized I can run up my 3 flights of stairs in my building!!!:drinker: ), how my suit feels when I get in the water, trying on my stack of smaller sized jeans...ya know fun things like that ...that don't drive me CRAZY... the clothes and that sort of thing don't go up an down like the scale will.

I know it is a hard adjustment for folks at first...but it really is awesome to move past it if you can as your sole method of feeling you're worthy or not.

Not owning one really helps me......I jump on at the gym merely cause I'm curious every so often and like to change up my ticker on occasion:laugh:

Hey good luck to you.....you CAN DO IT! I like how your trainer is starting you out at a slower pace...perhaps he's using a method to work you up each time...

It's so easy to jump in both feet first and then end up getting burned out at the gym....the trainers job is to keep you there and help you for the long haul ahead....

I'll be thinking about you.... PM if you'd like to be weigh in partners....I'll cheer you along so you can do withdrawels.....you CAN MAKE IT....it won't be easy for a daily weigh in person but it's certainly DO-ABLE Cyber:flowerforyou: :drinker:

So glad you were able to get a trainer.....awesome!!

ENJOY...and always remember...it's not unusual to have mixed feelings about your trainer:noway: .....happy one day, annoyed:mad: the next, pissed:grumble: off another day thinkin he/she must be nuts when they suggest/tell you to do such and such... but it's SO worth that extra bit of help in guiding you.

Good comments regarding the ups and downs on the scale....I see how much it freaks out folks here on MFP and I feel so bad...when the very next day, next hour, two days from now...the scale may say something completely different. But if in the mean time if it sends a person into a tailspin binge.....ACK...might be his reasoning....

The comments on comprimising are good ones...perhaps he'd go with once a week for you....especially since you're so used to daily...I can see how tough it must be to look down the road of 5 weeks and scale withdrawel at the same time.:noway: :ohwell:

Some folks eat carrot sticks when they quit smoking...have you decided what you'll do when you get the urge to jump on the scale?  :flowerforyou:

Can you have a family member hide it from you except one a week? I hear that alot from people and it seems to work.....now I can't guarantee you won't lose you mind digign thru the house for it ...but...:noway:

I started out on the same scale at the gym and ONLY weight on that one each time...they all seem to vary a bit.

Plus they are digital and I imagine much more high tech than bathroom scales...?

YEA...I too wonder where the heck the gyms are that still do combined showers...nothing like 7th grade nightmare all over again!:grumble:

My trainer wants me to build up gradually, I used to do 25 mins on treadmill, same with the rower, cross trainer and bike, but that was 5 years ago :blushing:
I do 30 -45 mins a day on my elliptical every evening, trainer says I can still do that, btu he wants to get me back into the gym gradually rather than full steam ahead, and find me backing out the door!
I can see his point, but I just seem to have sooo much energy to burn now, I wanna keep going
 As for the showers, ewwww! No way was I gonna share with strangers! I saw that and got outa there! Boy was I glad to walk up the hill and get in my shower!!!

Eww, communal showers??? I know you live in England, but that's just unheard of! I would never have joined a gym with communal showers... I don't blame you one bit for going home.

ah...ok, makes sense to me..but I can see where it could be a wee bit frustrating when you want to jump in both feet and give it your all from the getgo:wink:

YAY on living soo close to the gym....makes it easier to get there when your body tries to talk you out of it at times:laugh: and it WILL:huh:  ...

Oh I know my body will fight me
another good thing regarding where the gym is situated, I'm 2 minutes walking distance away when at work - and ALL my lovely ladies I look after there will be encouraging me to attend the gym, so there's no escaping - they will be able to watch me walk through the carpark to the gym, so I've got no chance of cheating and not going in
