HRM- which one should I get?

I plan to buy a HRM . I found two models( watch and strap chest) and the price goes from 29$ ( on sale from 59) to 200$. I need your advice . Which one should I pick? Which one is the most accurate? Thanks. Any advice is apreciate it .:)

    the most popular seem to be ones from Polar. The FT4 or FT7 seem to be the ones to have.

    I have posted this message in the past, but I am a big fan of Polar (one of their 2011 Ambassadors) and they have a wonderful line of HRM's. I have been using their products for about a year and a half.

    I started with (and most recommend) the FT7 - about $90 to $105, but after 8 months, I graduated to the FT80, which gave me GPS, Fitness Tests (VO2max), a visual display of my HR, Strength Training detail (add you entire lifting routine into the watch) and a great online community that supports me through challenges (uploading through a Flow Link accessory). I use it for the elliptical, tennis and weight lifting.

    Online the FT80 lists at $349. I have seen it as low as $299 (with a Flow Link) at heartratemonitorusa.com.

    Polar also has a really great line of basic HR monitors. The FT4 (about $60-$70 online) will count your calories and store the info. When you step up to the FT 7, FT40 FT60 & FT80 they can all upload results to polarpersonaltrainer.com...each adds a feature up the line and you should select a monitor that matches your lifestyle/budget.

    I have the Polar FT60. I started with the Sportline Duo and absolutely hated it! CHest strap would not connect to teh watch so cals burned, which I bought it for, was not working! My Polar, though 3 times more expensive than the Sportline Duo actually works!!!!! Very easy to set up, sort manual (written in many many many languages) Lots of great options too. $150 at amazon.com, free shipping, when I ordered it. I have heard no negative reviews of any Polar HRM.
  • The Polars are great but I have a Suunto M4 (black and pink) and I love it! The reason I didn't get a Polar was that the models I looked at seemed really big. My Suunto can be worn everyday and it doesn't look like a HRM. The strap is comfortable and I really loved all the features. Whichever model/brand you choose go for a pricier one. The ones below $100 probably aren't as accurate. I love my HRM and can't imagine workout out without it! :)

    Polar for sure! I have an FT7 which I love.. very easy to use/set up. It's also really accurate(or as accurate as an HRM can be, since nothing can directly measure calorie expenditure).

    You really get what you pay for when it comes to HRM's and so buy a cheap one now and you'll have wishing you bought that more expensive one.

    Well it depends on your budget. . I went out to buy a Polar ft4 and didn't find them right away. . .so I bought a 47$ Sportline with a chest strap at Walmart and it works great! Perhaps later I will invest in a polar, but right now this works for me. . Whatever one you get though you will find the most accuracy with the chest strap! Good luck! and God bless!

    I agree with the polar choice. I have the Polar FT40.......I LOVE IT. I invested the extra $50 for the module to upload the data to Polar Personal Trainer. There are lots of motivation on that site too.

    I also have used a SUUNTO T3. It had an upload feature as well and cool graphics, but no web site.

    I would go Polar all the way. The last time I lost 40 pounds, I relied heavily on the calories burned on my HRM. Plus it is motivating.

    I have a Suunto as well, I had a Garmin 405cx, that I returned because of battery issues. Got the Suunto T3d to replace it, and love it. I find the calorie counting to be on par with what the Garmin said, and my trainer seems to agree with what it posts as well...
  • I have a Polar FT4 and couldn't be happier. Its so spot on accurate! There's some people on here that log 1000+ calories burned per day and they don't use a HRM.....come on now!
