I end my day with 70g of sugar. However, this happens on days where I don't eat any sweets.. All the sugar comes from fruit and veggies and skim milk. What do I do?? I've tried keeping the sugar down by eating less fruits but then I dont get all of my calories in. any advice? Is going over ok?

its good sugar. it absorbs into your body differently. so it doesnt turn into fat

Fruit and veggie sugars are very easy on your body, I wouldn't be concerned. Now if your sugars are coming from anything processed or refined THEN I'd be worried! Sounds like you're OK, though.

    What?

Sugar is still sugar. It's 4kcal per gram. This is regardless of where it comes from (fruit, ice cream, pasta, etc). When you mix sugar with fiber, some of it can be leeched out because it gets attached to the fiber you eat so you could absorb less calories in that way. If you eat too many calories, even if those calories come from fruit, you can still gain weight. That's thermodynamics at work.

The reason most people don't get fat when eating fruit is for a lot of reasons but a main one being volumetrics. Try to eat 500kcal in strawberries and 500kcal in ice cream. The ice cream will be gone in 5 seconds but you'd probably throw up trying to stuff that many strawberries down.

    RangerSteve is correct.

Focus on lower-sugar fruits (berries, etc) than high-sugar fruits (melons, etc). Not only will there be less sugar, but more nutrition. And don't worry about 'not eating enough calories' - if you feel full, then you are eating enough. Eating more than you want in order to match someone else's expectations ("Finish your plate - people are starving in China!") is what got us fat in the first place. ;)

The thing is, I can't decrease my calories. I'm breastfeeding a baby and need to eat enough calories to maintain the milk supply. Just wish Icould get less sugars in =/ great advice about the berries though. I will try to relace my higher sugar fruits with some lower ones!
