I drink several cups of decaffeinated coffee per day. Can these be counted as my "water"?

No. Water is just that. Water. Pure with nothing added to it.0

truly only water can be considered as water
but, i am someone who HATES water. seriouslyy.. hates it.
so i drink a lot of tea and add crystal light to my water.
& im doin just fine:)0 -
I don't see why not, it's still water that's infused with flavor. I count morning tea and iced tea, it's all just water.0

Can't go wrong with MiO. No calories, no sugar, no nothing water flavor enhancer!0

Also be aware that coffee dehydrates you...0

I'm a believer that coffee counts (or any drink for that matter) caffeine can dehydrate you, so some won't count it but you say you're drinking decaf so I don't see why not!
And while coffee may be pretty much calorie free - don't forget to count those calories for anything you add to it!

My doctor says count it as water. So that's water I do0

Wrong, Caffeine dehydrates you. Youd be hard pressed to actually get dehydrated from it.Also be aware that coffee dehydrates you...0

Tea and coffee can have a dehydrating effect, due to the caffeine. Even decaf coffee has a tiny amount of caffeine in it I believe, so I would not be replacing all your water with the decaf coffee.0

No
for every cup of coffee , you supposed to drink two additional cups of water. Coffee deshidrates your body .
sorry...0 -
I have also heard that your water needs to be cold, as it makes your body work to warm it up.0

She said decaffeinated0 -
Yep...as long as you don't add stuff to it and it remains decaf. If you have regular coffee...add an extra cup of water a day.
I tend to have 1-2 coffee drinks a day. My usual cup of black coffee in the morning and occasionally a double or triple espresso around 3ish if I need some caffeine before a run.0 -
It definitely counts towards your water intake!
And coffee should NOT dehydrate you (caffeine is the diuretic in coffee, and, well, decaf doesn't have any...anyway, research suggests that even full-caf doesn't have enough caffeine to act as more than a very mild diuretic) :drinker:0 -
Coffee's not a problem

Water's still better0 -
No, I don't think so.0

Thanks everyone for all your replies! I think I'll compromise. I'll count my decaffeinated coffee as water....but not on MFP water meter...and keep working toward trying to get down 8 glasses a day. But I am sure glad to know that I don't have to add a glass of water for every cup I drink! I would definitely float away!!!0

Thanks for the correction! And I hope I didn't come off as a know it all... just trying to add something beneficial. Thank you again so much for clarifying!
As a side note: I think the diuretic effects are personal. While for some coffee is ineffective as a diuretic, other's find it disturbing to their system so I do think you have to take into consideration your own tolerance. AND that is personal opinion not something scientific or that I'm expecting to be found in article... just fyi! :-)0 -

I actually agree completely with this. Scientific studies have apparently found that there isn't enough caffeine in coffee to act as a diuretic....but my own experience keeps me from drinking it before long road trips (stopping every 20-30 minutes = no fun, lol) ;-)0
