Going out for Curry!!! O_O

Ok so tonight I'm going out for a family dinner at the local Indian restaurant.........not the best place to be starting a diet thats for sure.
Has anyone got any ideas on what would be the least calorific option on the menu?
I'm so used to having the creamy options, lamb passanda being my favorite at the moment, and I know these aren't good so i'm looking for a yummy lower calorie alternative.
I guess beer will be off the menu tonight also

I love indian you could try a Korma or rendang (depending on how hot you like your curry) I love butter chicken, however I have it with no rice, no papadams and no breads. Try using the data base and search ahead of time. Maybe just look at the generic ones. If you really want and passanda maybe do an extra work out or walk before you go out.0

I went for an Indian on Friday night and I had tandoori chicken which is basically roast spiced chicken. I had half a naan some rice and some bombay potatoes. The whole lot came to around 1,000 cals! But I hadn't eaten all day so I wasn't too far over my daily allowance.
Make sure you do a good workout before you go so that you've got some exercise cals to use0 -
White rice would be a bad idea. You might want to stay away from that. Rotis are good (with no oil or butter). Butter chicken would be a total no no. Try Tandoori chicken. Its grilled and low on calories. and masoor dal (Not yellow dal). Yellow dal is high on calories.0

try and opt for a dry dish like tandoori chicken or the shisk kebabs and have salad and the yoghurt dip. as soon as you incorporate rice or bread then your adding about 300+ cals to your meals.
why not pick a selection from the starters so you have a few choices to choose from.
OR if youve been good, why not treat yourself to the curry you want? theres no point in going if your not going to enjoy yourself x0 -
My eating out strategy is usually to just order what I normally would and only eat half of it and then take the rest home in a box and eat it the next day. But then again creamy things aren't usually what I would order anyway, so half an order ends up usually being about 500 cals whereas I guess half an order of a creamy dish could be way more than that. Definitely look up your options in the database beforehand and make your decision and give it some thought...when I have a plan, I know I hate to deviate from it. You might end up looking forward to your low-cal (but still delicious) option to the point that you forget about your usual one entirely.0

Korma is my fave but SO high in calories! I now have tandori chicken with a green salad and mint sauce and chutney - a couple of popadums (if i have cals) i havent had for a while but this is the lowest of all indian foods! and it really is yummy and doesn't leave you feeling so mega bloated and full after.
Hope it helps and enjoy your meal! x0 -
Just go and enjoy yourself. Don't make it a blow out and stuff yourself silly with your favourites, eat what you want, just in moderation. Make up for it during the week with doing more exercise and sticking to your food plan.

If you can get some South Indian - you could try Idlis (Instead of rice or rotis). they are steamed.0

I'd go for soemthing like tandoori chicken with a little rice (or a small portion of Bombay potatoes)
Or else a chicken Tikka would work (minus the Masala)
I love Indian but make my own so I can have a meal within about 550 cals !!0 -
Thank you guys. Tandoori chicken seems to be a firm favorite wherever I look.
I have been informed by my 'better half' that a Murgh Gulshan might be what I want to be having. I have tried this before and enjoyed it and from I can remember consists of chicken cooked with peppers, onions and tomatoes and has some light seasoning (very BBQ'ee if i remember rightly) its dry so no creamy sauces to worry about and teaming that with a chapati sounds like an awesome plan.......may be a wee spoonful of bombay potatoes too0
