understanding health/fitness

I recently just joined MFP after a week of joining a community Biggest Loser contest. I am a single mother of a 4 year old and joined the gym last May to get my pre-pregnancy body back. I have been working out steady ever since and have lost here and there. My main problem was eating whatever I wanted and actually just realized I wasn't eating enough calories for the amount of time I put in at the gym! I consistently workout 5-6 days a week and regularly go to the fitness classes 4 days a week at the gym. I joined the contest as a challenge to push myself to achieve the 20lbs I would like to lose. It started June 22, 2011 and during that first week, I changed my eating habits to make healthier choices and aid to losing the weight. A week later, I found out about this app to track calories. Since then I have learned so much about what it takes to actually lose weight and that is by taking in enough calories, eating healthier, and with working out consuming more calories throughout the day! I am able to keep track of it easily by just recording down everything I eat and the types of exercises I do. It makes much more sense now that I am able to see that you have to ''eat to lose". I am hoping to achieve my health and fitness goal when the contest is up and maintain my weight with the food diary app! Thanks so much MTP
