Hello all, just wanting to find out how many runners out there run even though they have arthritis. I'd like to know a little more about how much you run, how fast, how long, how far.... and how you manage the pain.... thanks!

I have a bad right foot that hurts in the arch and a certain part of the heel. I try to invest in good, cushiony socks that pad in the right areas, but it's always important to have GOOD running shoes. I'm going to invest as soon as I can afford it!0

Hi,
I have arthritis and fibromyalgia and I started running at the beginning of the year. I started by running intervals. On the first two weeks I warmed up for 5 minutes and then for the following 30 minutes I would run for 2 minutes and rest for walk for 2. And then I started increasing the minutes running and decreasing the minutes walking. You really have to listen to your body as you know. I got to the point that I can ran without the walking/resting. I also started doing 3x a week and increased with time.
Also you should go to a running store so they can watch the way you walk/run and recommend the best shoes for you. It doesn't cost anything. The shoes are very important so you don't stress your back.
I hope this helps. My entire life I had doctors telling me that I was never going to be able to run. I will be doing a triathlon soon.
And congrats on your weight loss!!0 -

Movement lubricates. I'm not a runner, I lift weights and do Insanity. I have osteoarthritis in both knees and hips. I wear a brace on the right knee (it needs extra lateral motion protection) and just do it.
I use motrin and ice/heat rotation for mild pain.
I also recommend Strong Women and Men Beat Arthritis by Ph.D, Miriam E. Nelson, Kristin Baker, M.A., Lawrence Lindner and Ronenn Roubenoff (http://www.amazon.com/Strong-Women-Men-Beat-Arthritis/dp/0399528563/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1311109924&sr=8-1)0 -
