Buying things for motivation?

Is it a good idea to try to set goals along with rewards? I'm thinking maybe I'll set a weight loss goal and buy something to reward myself. Is it good motivation? Or just substituting food for other material things? HELP!!

My motivation TO workout are new pretty workout toys. LOL. Got a Powerrack? Buy an extra pair of J Hooks. Have Olympic weights? Upgrade to Quad Rubber grip. My rewards are rewards to help my giving myself rewards! LOL.
But whatever works y'know. We all sometimes need a goal.0 -
I personnally think it is an excellent idea. When I got under the 200 lb. mark I bought myself a new outfit. And when I get under 180 lbs. I will buy myself some new under clothes. I have seen that some people get a massage or pedicure or something when they hit one of their small goals. I may just have to do the massage when I hit my final goal of 150 lbs.0

Definitely. Whatever works
This week for me I have told myself if I attend all 8 group fitness classes I set out too I will reward myself with a new bag. You just have to be strong and stick to your guns. There's no point setting goals with rewards if you just reward yourself anyway. Next week I'll come up with something different - obviously can't be expensive things all the time because I'd send myself broke, but anything to keep me motivated.
Good luck0 -
At some point your baggy clothes will look pretty bad on you, so buying a new size (even if it is just a stop on the road) will be a great treat and probably something you'll need to do anyway. If it motivates you, I think it's fine.0

I have a pair of shorts I fit into for my honeymoon that I don't fit in anymore(obviously) that's one of my rewards. I also bought a suit from victoria's secret *whew!* Anything you think would give you some kind of high for meeting that goal, get it! It doesn't always have to cost something.0

I think it's awesome.
My mom helps me.
When I got under 200 she bought me a HRM.
When I lost 50, she gave me $200.
We don't have any other goals set, but when I get to 150 I plan to buy myself a cute PINK workout outfit.0 -
Sounds good to me!!! Let's get shopping...!!!0
