I used to live in Memphis and moved away exactly a year ago. I only stayed there for 2.5 years but I ended up loving the people, the culture, and the non-profit organizations there. But one thing that was always heavy on my heart was the Memphis City Schools. I volunteered in the schools for 2 years and loved the interaction I had with the kids, teachers, and parents. Now I have heard that Memphis City Schools has announced that school will be closed indefinitely...Is that true? What is going to happen to students, faculty and staff of these schools? I am concerned...and want to be updated if possible.

Thanks.

hey, yes that is true and thank God I am not too long out of the mess. I hear it's a money issue as always. here is something my old teacher posted on her facebook wall.

MEMPHIS, TN - (WMC-TV) – The Memphis City Schools board voted to indefinitely delay the 2011-2012 school year at an emergency meeting Tuesday night.

Board members said they want the city of Memphis to pay millions of dollars owed to the school system before they will allow classes to resume.

Lori Brown is at the meeting, and will have a full report tonight on Action News 5 at 10pm and WMCTV.com.
