Too much protein!

I've only just started using MFP (even though being signed up for several months) and I notice that I eat a lot of protein. Today I have just finished lunch and I'm already over!!!! All I've had is an omlette with egg whites, turkey ham and veges for breakfast and a chicken salad for lunch. And thats it all my protein points well and truly gone :(
I know that I can cut the turkey ham out and change my breakfast altogether but I'm still really surprised in how little protein we are allowed. What am I going to have for dinner??? Does anyone else have this problem?? If not what does your typical day look like with regards to protein just so I can get an idea of what to aim for.

Thanks for the help in advance!!

After about a week on here and reading a bit of what others have said, I found the carb setting too high and the protein too low. You can tweak it a little in your settings though.

MFP sets the protein at a pretty low number to begin with, so I think you'll be ok if you go over, especially if you work out. If you don't like to see the numbers in red, you can always go in and change your goals manually to increase the number.

Within reason, there isn't such a thing as too much protein. I was always over my protein number MFP set. I've gone in and set my percentages to reflect my eating goals.

    Good luck!

Some say lots of protein is good for you. Some say excessive amounts are bad for you. Figure out what kind of diet you want to follow and make your decision.

If you really want to stop eating protein, sub it with good carbs like veggies.

Check under your goals to see what percentage of your calories it's set to. When I re-ran the wizard the other day, it set mine to like 15% of my calories from protein and 30% from fat, which is too much fat for me. I manually reset the ratios.

Too much protein is usually defined as more than 1g protein per lb that you weigh

Ex: Girl who weighs 120lbs shouldn't eat more than 120g of protein per day.

    Anything under that is fine.

I never worry about too much protein. My ratios are 40,30,30. The carb setting is very high on MFP

Protein is generally considered good for both bulking muscle and maintaining lean muscle mass when trying to loose weight. Some studies even show a protein rich diet will help block calorie absorption by around 10%.

Several sites/articles, I have read, recommend a 40-40-20 (Carbs-Protein-Fat) ratio when trying to loose weight. This can be difficult to meet depending on your caloric intake for the day. So adjust your percentages to match your diet and goals.

shoot for. 8-1g per pound of lean body mass, protein is good for you and the amino acids in it fuels muscle repair and a whole host of other body functions. I eat 220+ a day and I'm still alive!

Cheers everyone! I didn't know you could manually change the amount of protein/carbs allowed. Will go and do that now!
    Thanks for all the help.
