I leave tomorrow for Peru, and I'll be there 2 weeks. I have no idea how to stay on plan (I do Weight Watchers) there since I have no idea what the food is like. Anyone been there and can give me suggestions about what I should order while there that's WW friendly? Thanks!!

That's what I heard, but it will NOT be a part of my diet!

According to the pic I saw of it online, it's deep fried whole and served whole....teeth and all! There's no way!

I used to live in Peru. Not sure where you'll be, but I'd assume Lima and Machu Picchu. No idea what you'd get in the rainforest/Amazon area.

Peruvian food has a lot of fish, especially ceviche ("cooked" in the acid of citrus fruit). Another thing that's big is anticuchos, which is like steak kabobs. A lot of rice and beans, or purple corn. Quite a bit of chicken dishes as well, though many are creamy, and you should ask for the sauce on the side. Guinea pig is not common in Lima, and you'll find many American-style restaurants, as well as cuisine you'd be familiar with that you can get here, like Italian or Japanese.

If you're in the mountains, may be offered alpaca (which is supposed to taste like gamey beef, but I never tried it). Here's where the guinea pig will be on the menu as well. There's spicier food in the mountains, but if you're anything like me, while I love spices at sea level, spices at altitude were so hard to get down.

When cooked as food in Peru, guinea pig is called "cuy". (coo-ie). I checked, it wasn't in the database, but the nutrition info is here: http://cookeatshare.com/recipes/roasted-cuy-guinea-pig-407499

I haven't been in Peru, but I eat a lot of peruvian food. I'm from Chile and our food is somewhat similar. If you chose wisely, you have tons of options. Try to mix and match wisely. Peru is big on seafood, best you will ever try. Ceviche...yum! It is super healthy and low in cals. If you chose to eat beef or chicken (try aji de gallina, so good), it is usually eaten with rice. Maybe eat a little bit of rice, but try to order a salad to go with it.
In general, they also eat lots of salad. Veggies are super cheap there compared to here. You can always get whatever you want and eat it salad instead of rice, potatoes or corn (choclo)
Also, Japanse food is also big there.
