For those who weigh daily - sometimes that scale does the op

I'm a daily weigher - I know many people say to ditch this habit and focus more in inches, but the daily weigh in actually helps me stay focused and accountable.
However, doing this, I notice some funny patterns. Like when I work out, especially a really self-pushed work out, I tend to go up two, maybe even three pounds the next day. My body retains that water and won't let it go for a couple days.
Also, if some of my lowest weigh-ins always come after a night of drinking. Regardless of how much I've eaten the day before, I weigh in the next morning and am always less. This happens if it's just a beer to if I'm feeling really hungover...I'm guessing its my body's dehydration showing up on the scale.
Thought this was interesting, and I guess I'm wondering if any other daily weighers notice the same thing

i weigh everyday, but i dont really go by what they say im just intrigued. I may hide them haha. I really go by inches lost, not weight anymore, but like you helps stay on track, i have a little window its stays between, if i go out of that then i do up the steaks a little! im not obsessive just cant help it haha! i never used to before i hit my 1st target!0

YES! This happens to me too. usually about 2 pounds less than usual if I had a good night of drinking!
I also notice that a high sodium day, usually the days I have to eat out twice a day if traveling for work or a road trip, I will gain a few pounds of water that will stick for 2-3 days. For instance, I ate out for breakfast and lunch on Sunday, Monday morning was up 4 pounds to 157, Tuesday down to 155, and today back down to 153 where I should be.0 -
The same thing happens to me. I always weigh in light after drinking but if you weigh in again later in the day you'll probably see a huge swing as you rehydrate and your body holds onto it...probably why Mondays are always a terrible weigh in for me. I find that usually by Wednesday I normalize to what I "actually" weigh so while I check in everyday i don't let it worry me one or the other until midweek. Even then, scales are fickle. One upside to the daily weigh in, however, is that I don't feel tried to a number just because its a certain day. It helps me keep track of my body rhythms, as long as you take it with a grain of salt so to speak.
On gaining after the exercise...you are in your first few weeks of exercising regularly (daily or semi daily) correct? If so, your body is going to hold onto a lot more water weight than it will after the initial adjustment period. I can't prove that, but I believe its true.0 -
Eactly the same for me!! and Just before TOM I am very low then the very next day up 1lb and then it takes a week to get back down to the pre TOM weight. V strange!!! This month just before TOM = 156 day after 157 then 156.8 156.6 and today 156.2 interesting!!!0

Same type of thing here. My weight goes up the day after a long run.0

i weigh every morning and night i really wish i didnt because as you say it can give super faulse readings and put you off your game!0

That's SO weird, that happens to me, too! The more hungover I am, the less I weigh...to drink more or not to drink more!0

I notice that my weight is more reflective what I did 2 days prior, not the day before. We were just talking about this in the gym today and that seemed to be a common trend among us gals.0

Grrrrrr! I jump up about 2 pounds a couple of days before TOM, then I slowly come back down. I'll have a week or two of really awesome numbers on the scale, then the pre-TOM munchies kick in and everything starts all over! Stupid TOM, I hate him.0 -
Absolutely! I weigh once before bed, and once each morning, I notice those same patterns!0

Drinking alcohol causes you to loose a massive amount of water, so you get lighter. Mix it with caffeine and it makes weigh in day a good reason to party. For working out, you're body needs the water and will hold on to it while it builds muscle and recovers from the exercise. Think healthy over weight.
hit the scale whenever you want to. No matter what others think if it's working for you, do it.0 -
i read it somewhere that every morning, we are naturally at out lightest weight because we actually losing some water while we are asleep. but for me, i prefer weighing myself on mornings right after i pee and before i eat breakfast. they say you will get the most accurate results on mornings than when you do it mid mornings because of fluid changes0

Yes, I have the exact same thing. I'm always up at least 1lb after an intense strength work out, and the only time my weight's actually gone down is when I was a little hungover. It's super frustrating and pretty discouraging overall. I've been tracking my food and weight obsessively for a few weeks now and the only changes I've seen on the scale are the hydration dips and rises.0

Yes. I'm still struggling with finding time to work out and it usually happens that I work out anywhere from 1 to 5 times a week. It really all depends. Hopefully once school gets started, I will be able to spend some time at the-very-conveniently-in-my-building-gym on a daily or semi-daily basis.0 -
I am always 2-3 pounds less after a night of drinking. It's tempting to think all those calories from beer didn't effect my waistline, even though in reality I know it's just because I'm dehydrated.
I also will weigh less after a good workout, about an hour or two. When I used to do cardio for two hours and sweat like a madman, I'd weigh myself after and lose 3 pounds in water weight.
That's why I think it's so important to focus on your eating habits and excercising than the scale, because it can trick you horribly!!0
