    This happens a lot in my culture. I grew up with a girl who got married at 17 to a 39 year old guy. She's preggers with her third kid right now. She would say things like "oh my whole life is set out for me, I can have everything I want, bladidbladibla." My parents wanted me to get married too, but I refused. She's not happy staying at home doing nothing and taking care of her kids, I'm almost done with my first BA and living and loving life, but guess who's more worthwhile In my grandma's and mom's eyes?     people shouldnt be allowed to do that.

    its terrible because the men just beat and abuse them. i think that should be more disturbing than the 16 year old. but because them people arent famous no one gives a crap

    I couldn't imagine getting married at that age, I didn't know what I wanted at 16 and double that age now and it's not that much better....

    Yes, it is gross but it actually happens everywhere in the world, Some may be culture-related, or it really is love and age doesn't matter, or people are completely blind of what really is happening outside thier own world....

    I think it goes beyond her parents letting her marry him for money. Unless he paid for all that plastic surgery. I would rather go back to my highest weight then look as fake as her.

    I agree Skinny. No laws were broken and if both of them are okay with it, who are we to cast stones. It is ok to have an opinion, but let us not judge, because we all have our own demons to fight. I once heard a radio DJ say, "If we knew what our neighbors were doing in the privacy of their home, we would be in complete shock".

    Look past the age gap and try to see two people in love. I know it is hard, but try anyway. May look at it differently. And yes, I did marry a girl younger than me---by 4 years.

    Grim as it seems to us, not all Arab or muslim countries practise this. I think it's grossly unfair to tar everyone with the same brush. There are also muslim African nations who not only marry off their daughters at around this age but circumcise them during childhood. No doubt some of our practises seem barbaric to other peoples. :ohwell:

    Regarding the original post; I don't believe that having sex with a 16 year old counts as paedophilia. Certainly in the UK, the age of consent is 16, and I'm guessing that since the couple was allowed to get married, then the age of consent there (USA?) is also 16. While she may not have reached the age of majority, she certainly isn't a child.

    As to the reasons behind the marriage - who knows? Not me, that's for certain. I don't know the couple (in fact, I don't even know who you're talking about!), and even if I did, I wouldn't presume to know the reasons for their union. When all is said and done, if it doesn't affect your life, why worry about it?! And why waste your energy postulating about it being a career move for the young woman in question?

    My husband and I have a 20 year age difference between us. However, I was 25 when i married him, not 16, and i had been divorced already, which means I knew what marriage was all about and what I wanted in a marriage, and he and I have known each other for at least 10 years. He's a freak and she is a fame wh***!! And her parents are nuts!! My 16 year old child is not gonna be dressing like that!!! Over my dead body!!
