Hi I'm thinking about taking up golf. Played twice before when I was super fat and hated it. But now that I'm not so fat anymore thinking about playing again. Anyone have a recommendation for beginner set of clubs that won't break the bank?

Look at used sets of clubs. Ebay, craigslist, ****s, roger dunn. Remember drive for show, putt for dough!

Yeah, don't invest too much in clubs until you know you're hooked. In addition to the places Panda Jack stated, your local pawn shop will almost certainly have some used sets.

And yes, Drive for show, putt for dough!!! And chipping is pretty important too.

If you're looking to get more exercise, get a bag with the backpack straps and auto stand to carry around the course. It's a really good workout versus riding in a cart.

I bought a set at D***'s that was around $200. Then the golf pro I was taking lessons with told me he could have fitted me with a set for not too much more. I'd suggest you call a local course or driving range and talk to the pro. Maybe you can take some lessons with a loaner/rental set, see how into it you get, and then ask the pro for purchasing advice if you and s/he click...

Many of the courses in my area have rental sets, so if you're not interested in lessons and just wanna go out and play, use rentals until you know golf is a hobby you'll stick with and investing in clubs is worth it.

    Have fun!

I started with some Dunlop tour clubs, they're not amazing although they were great value and good enough to whack the ball a couple of hundred yards, probably further if I had better technique ;) Cheaper clubs can quite often be al ot more forgiving than good ones so I wouldn't worry too much, the clubs are only 1/1000th of the battle!! :D

You can get a decent set of clubs from Sam's Club. And sometimes ****s' sporting Goods.
