Anyone done this? Is it doable when you have lots to lose (100ish pounds?) or if not, at what point is it doable, really....

Or is it best used to tone up once you are nearer your goal weight?

Thanks!!!

I'm doing the P90 right now. The P90X was a little intimidating to me. The P90 has kicked my butt hard and this is my 3rd week. I can do almost everything as good as them. It also has a Phase 3&4. I will be doing those starting at the end of week 4 for days 30 - 90. I can already see a difference. I feel great and its tough but not intimidating! You can do it. They also have a great payment plan so its affordable for everyone.

I'd start with P90 if I were you. It depends on your fitness level though.

YOu're shown how to modify everything in P90X.

That being said I'd start with Power 90 if I were you. It is designed for someoen that doesn't workout much or at all. P90X assumes you're at least somewhat active.

If you do go the P90X route, I'd stay away from Plyo until you lose some weight. that would be just way too much pounding on your joints.

    Good luck!!

    Good question.

From my own experience, in total, I have 70 lbs to lose. I'm only down 17 lbs but I stopped listening to the scale. I'm doing the Insanity (crazy cousin of P90X) workout and I started at my own pace. I couldn't do the mad crazy jumps, or the 'man' pushups, so I modified the workout to my fitness level. The results are fabulous so far. Don't go into it thinking you can keep pace with the people on TV. Do what you can at the pace you can. The main things is keeping the form right (modified or not). Don't let your weight be a cop out. You can do this!!!!

There are warnings about not starting P90X if you are "out of shape" (not saying you are out of shape, just be careful). I suggest starting with something else and then pick it up.

You can do P90X, you will just have to modify and expect it to take longer then 90 days. However Power 90 is a good starting place.

I started it at 204 pounds (I'm female) but I had already been working out regularly. There is a fit test on their website. I took that and decided that since I was able to do everything but the pull ups (no bar) I could do the program. As someone mentioned, you can modify just about everything. I modify what I need to and I do my best on everything. There are quite a few people who've done it and started out very overweight but I think you'll get more out of it if you're already pretty active. If you can't afford both P90 and P90X get the one that appeals to you and work your way into it but realize you won't be able to do a lot of what they can do.

I started P90X Lean at about 65 lbs. overweight and loved it! Whatever I couldn't do I just improvised. Can't do push-ups? Use the wall. Can't do any more reps lifting weights? Put them down and go through the motions bare-handed. Can't do anymore jumping jacks, just wiggle in place like an idiot. lol That sort of thing. :)

The trick was to check my heart rate 5 or 6 times per video, write them down, average them and enter them here: (http://www.braydenwm.com/calburn.htm) if you don't have a HRM (like me).

And just do your best and push yourself each time. :) I found keeping track on the worksheets tedious and it slowed me down so I only did it the first time and planned to do it the last time.

Unfortunately, I had to move and literally have NO space in which to do it anymore so I had to quit the very first week. (Also, I'm moving 2000 miles away in a few weeks so things are too hectic even if I COULD make room.) But I am SO excited to get moved and start it again. It kicked my @$$, big time, but it was SO fun! I shocked myself with how enjoyable it was! Some days I was so sore, I had to soak in a hot bath and take some aspirin just to get moving for the day, but I did it!

I say try it, do your best and see how it goes. :)

Can't wait to get back to it! :D

i think you can totally do it. You will just need to do two things.
    1. Modify modify modify the moves - they show you how.
    2. Don't freak out if you get to a point where you either want to do or they are doing some super effed up move you are nowhere near being able to do. I had those moments, especially when I hit the Core Synergetics dvd and thought there was no way I could keep up with the program after that. I flipped the tv off, cussed out Tony Horton and gutted it out.

He has that saying "do your best and forget the rest" and it is SO true!

I agree with trying something else first!! I tried P90X and almost killed myself!! I'm about 40 lbs. overweight with bad knees, hips, and back. Leslie Sansone has great workout videos. She walks and incorporates other things like arm movements to tone other parts of the body. It's a workout that's doable for any size and shape! :)

Everyone here makes a valid point. If you're hesitant, start with Power 90. However, if you feel motivated and you're not intimidated, go for it and modify as you need. In fact, I can think of a few people off the top of my head who have started off with 100+ lbs to lose and jumped right into P90X. Most of them ended up making it into the infomercial! So it's doable for someone with a lot of weight to lose, but it's completely individual.
