Core Exercises to do Outside or In Apartment

Greeting everyone,
I have been getting back into running for the past few months after a long hiatus and I feel great, getting up early in the mornings before the oppressive heat to run anywhere between 4-6 miles. I've dropped about 40 pounds so far and hope to drop at least another 40 more.
As I knew would happen, my weight loss and fitness level has leveled out and the progress is now coming more slowly. I am particularly concerned about increasing my running millage and speed. I've recognized that up to this point I have only been running and neglected weight training, particularly core exercises. I use to belong to a gym but I've quit that as I see it as a waste of money and unnecessary (unless it's raining!). Regardless I was wondering if anyone had any core strengthening routines that could either be done inside an apartment and/or outside like in a part or a local high school football field (unused during the summer). I would do them once or twice a week on the days I'm not running and giving my legs a day off.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Aaron
