Ok so I weigh 175 5'3 and I'm really looking to lose some weight in 2 months for my mother in laws wedding. I would like to be 155 2.5 pounds a week. Is that insane or pretty good.

Depends on how dilegent you are, how hard you work and what rate you lose weight at. I started out same weight as you, about the same height and my first week loss was like 3.5 pounds .. after that not so much.0

I work hard to lose 2lbs / week on average. That means working out for 45 mins or more a day for 6 days a week. And I am very aware of my food (thank goodness for the food diaries) I guess what I am trying to say, is that it can be done...it just depends on how bad you want it. And then there's no guarantee that your body will respond exactly that way. Go for it thought! What's the worst that could come of it? Even if you fall short of your goal, you'll have still lost weight!0

Setting a time limit for a large volume of weight seems to never work for me.0

2.5 pounds a week isn't too bad, but I think your goal would be more realistic if you shot for 1.5 or 2 pounds a week. You may very well lose 2.5 or 3 pounds a week for a while just from the initial "shock" of reducing calories and exercising. However, that'd just a be a bonus, and you won't have to feel so bad about not making your goal.0

Probably too aggressive for how much body fat you have. A more realistic goal is 1-1.5 lbs per week. That said, people often lose a larger amount (5-10 lbs) in the first week or two simply from water weight. A short term goal is fine, just keep it realistic and healthy. Losing too fast can actually backfire - if you go beyond what your body is comfortable with, you'll likely decrease your metabolsim and lose a large amount of muscle, in addition to fat, which will make losing more/maintaining the loss much harder.

2.5 lbs a week isn't an unreasonable goal, but only if you get in a LOT of exercise. You would need to be going pretty much everyday for at least and hour if you'd like to hit that. Doctors say it is safe to lose weight quickly but only for a short period of time... so long as you slow it down after that and go back to 1-2 lbs/week, you should be fine. The good thing is, when first starting off losing weight your body typically does respond quickest If I were you I would definitely see your doctor or a nutritionist to make sure this isn't an unreasonable task for your body. Also, in my experience, I used to shoot for really unrealistic goals, and when I wouldn't even come close or would stress myself out, not only would the added stress hinder my weight loss, I would get depressed and sometime end up gaining weight. My point is, if it takes a year to lose 20 lbs, then it takes a year and you are 20 lbs thinner... it is a whole lot better at setting short term, depressing & unrealistic goals when in a years time you might end up weighing the same and wasting time on silly ideas. Hope this helps!
p.s. You don't always have as much control over your weight loss as you would like. It is not as simple as a math calculation where 2+2 will ALWAYS equal four. There are sooo many variables in losing weight that sometimes you will be down (on the scale) four pounds in a week, but the next week up two. Don't stress if you don't quite hit the 20 pounds in 2 months.0 -

Thanks everyone, I'm going to try my best but if I don't hit it at least I will try to get close. Before I started to diet 5 days ago my only fluid intake was Dr.Pepper about a 1 liter a day or more. Never would drink water and I mean never. Pepole wonder how I can move and do things without drinking anything else for months. So now I cutt out the soda and just drinking water. Let me tell u I sure do use the restroom more. lol So hopefully I can do it. Thanks everyone for your support. :+)0

You are going to be shocked, Tanya, at the huge change just dropping the Dr. P and drinking the water makes! Good luck!!!0 -
On average I lost 2-3lbs per week but that was with 3 days of cardio i.e. Zumba, Tae Bo, Elliptical or Running and 2-3 days of weight training in classes like Bodypump. I also tried to stay under 1,250 cal but over the 1,200 calories my body needs to maintain. I cut out all beverages except water and try to eat a lot of vegetables, salads, whole grain and proteins.
This all to say it can be done. Stay focused. Don't get discouraged if things don't move as quickly as you'd like. What's the worst that can happen? You've lost weight and adopted a healthy lifestyle.0 -

It's a tad ambitious to lose 20 pounds in 8 weeks. You're going to be miserable and lose a lot of muscle mass. You'd be better off aiming for 1-2 pounds per week. You'd lose less muscle and be much more comfortable.0
