Working out in a heat wave - be careful

Just a reminder to the MFPers walking/running outdoors during the current spell of heat and humidity to be very careful. Be sure to pace yourself, and even slow things down if you have to. And if at any time you feel weak or really struggling for breath, it's okay to cut your workout short for the day.
I just came from my usual 4 mile walk and I really had to push myself to get thru the last mile and a half because the heat and humidity were so oppressive...and the sun hadn't even come up yet. I was surprised how quickly the heat snuck up on me. Since it's going to be even worse here tomorrow (low around 85, high around 103), I will be cutting my next workout in half because the risk of heat exhaustion isn't worth it.
Take it easy out there.

Excellent reminder!!! It's also 100 degrees F + around here in Michigan. I would only add to stay hydrated!!! I was sweating buckets this morning doing my C25K before sunrise. Drink extra water!!! :drinker:0

Same here, we have about 100 Degrees today and almost 100 percent humidity and I decided to run in the gym today on treadmill. I ran outside yesterday and had a terrible headache later even though i drank a lot. Crazy heat!0

Be careful inside too!
My husband spend yesterday in the hospital due to chest pains and dizziness. The doctor thinks he had electrolyte deficit. He drank a lot of water, but was low on sodium! He was cutting down on sodium, but it turns out you can have too little.0
