Lower calorie goal VS set calorie goal to goal weight

Not sure if subject is clear, but instead of lowering the calorie goal as you lose weight, why not just set your daily calorie goal to what it will be at your ideal weight?
It seems to me by doing this, it would be easier to get into the habit of hitting that target continually even after the weight loss goal is met.
This is not what I am currently doing, just a thought that popped into my head today...
