53 Pounds later, the Government finally considers me healthy

For me, this journey started in the spring of 2010. I had ballooned up to 237 from my college days at 175. I think what really let me know how out of shape I had gotten was my friend's cruise wedding. We were playing some sand volleyball and I was about to have a heart attack I was so out of shape. I used to be able to do things like that for hours without problem. Of course i was much younger then. Here's a pic a friend took of me that day. She gave it to me after I lost all the weight and told me, "Here's your perfect before picture."
I don't think I ever really realized how big I had gotten until I really started losing the weight and seeing what a difference it made. I think we kind of grow into our bigger selves and our minds adjust slowly so that we don't realize we've put on so much weight until it's too late.
Here's another pic with my oldest daughter taken even before that. I look back and see how fat my face was.
My journey began with P90X. I got the videos and started the "lean" program. I couldn't really do all the things to pass the fitness test, but I did it anyway, thinking I would work my way into shape. Boy, the first few days really was an eye opener. It was really hard and I was really sore for about a week. But I kept on. I wasn't able to do it everyday, but was good to get it in about 4-5 days a week. I also wasn't really paying any attention to what I was eating at the time. in otherwords, my diet was still crap.
I got through the first phase and into Phase 2 when I had an injury which stopped my workout, bad plantar fascitis. It took several months to finally figure that out. And when I did, it was summer and I thought I'd see if I could run/jog. I didn't do any program, just got outside and jogged for as long as I could. the next time, i would do the same thing. I kept just getting out there and seeing how far I could go. i was so encouraged when I cuold go a bit father everytime I got out there on the roads. Before I knew it, I could run a mile, then two, then three, then four, then five. I've kinda stopped there and now run a 3 mile loop at least once a week.
I found MFP on my Iphone and downloaded it in November. I didn't start logginf until after Christmas 2010. But since I started, i haven't missed a day. I had lost about 20 lbs prior to MFP. I've lost the other 32 lbs while both using MFP and also keeping up with my cardio workouts. This has been the greatest tool in helping me learn what I was eating and how to make better eating decisions.
I hit my previous goal of 185 and am still a work in progress. But now when I look in the mirror, I can see my destination and know it's not out of reach.
Here's me a few days ago after a great 3 mile run.
184lbs

FANTASTIC JOB!! Are you still doing P90X? I started it back in Dec/Jan decided I wanted to drop 50 lbs before I start up again, I was really scared of my knee (old injury) going out. I really liked the program!0

I'm really thinking it's about time to start doing it again. I really did notice a big difference in the month I had done it. I just wish I would've been able to finish the last two months.
I have before pics when I started that somewhere. If I can find them, I'll post them and take some similar current pics.0 -
You really do look amazing! You have changed so much. I'm sure you feel so much better. I know when I weighed more I was always surprised to see myself in pictures. I knew I was fat, but I was still surprised to see myself that heavy. Now I have the opposite feeling. I expect the obese me when I look at pictures! Again Congrats on your loss!0
