My late thirties, career changes, sporadic exercise and some bad lifestyle habits have taken a toll, and I have put on 15+ pounds of body fat weight from what I am calculating over 5 years. I am now committed to get rid of all of this. I used to be 16-18% body fat and a regular strength training gym goer....

So I started back (regular) strength training combined with cardio and recently some serious calorie counting only six days ago. Muscles are coming back fast, fat is slow to shrink and I am frustrated. I read somewhere that this would happen, so any words on which aspect of the exercise training program to focus on?

HIIT should become your new best friend. it's High Intensity Interval training. Go all out of a run, for example, for 30 secs, then recover for 90 secs. it's will put your body into 'oh *kitten*' mode and burn fat. Also, Not sure what is in your diary, but eat clean foods and lean meats.
