As far as I know BMI is just a tool for the general population. You're obviously way more muscular than the average Joe. Don't even worry about BMI. Once you start building serious muscle, it no longer applies.

    Great work!

If your user pic is you, the BMI won't apply to you. It works for most people, but not body-builders or athletes. BAI (http://www.intmath.com/functions-and-graphs/bmi-bai-comparison.php) may be more accurate, short of a precise fat measurement with calipers or water displacement.

the BMI scale is only applicable to people with no muscle, which you clearly have. athletes show as obese as well. Just ignore the stupid thing. most experts agree it's mostly useless. a much more accurate measure is body fat percentage.

Yeah I agree. BMI isn't accurate at all, it just reads your overall weight but it cannot detect if its fat or muscle weight. I use more the tape measure and my clothes to see my progress. NO wonder many are getting obssessed on the scale that they get disappointed when their weight don't budge even if their clothes size are starting to shrink.

It's not a complete joke, but it's definitely not a perfect calculator of health. For most of the population, it's a great guideline.
  • I agree BMI is bs. My bf is 6'5 and the bmi said he should weigh under 190, which is effing crazy

BMI is a joke....it's even worse for kids though.

When I type my 2 1/2 year old daughters age, height, and weight into a BMI calculator it tells me she is "obese", when I change her age to 5 1/2 years and leave the height and weight the same it tells me she is "under-weight". Does that make any sense?

If you're obese, I wanna move to a town where all of the men are obese like you.

If that is what they call obese then I will gladly be obese. I definitely agree with the others about the BMI calculator being very general and doesn't apply to everyone.

And by the way, awesome transformation man!

Yes, for too many people, the BMI is not accurate. Plus, it's always changing and never consistent among the so-called experts. It's really more of a guideline for the average person. Nothing could fit every single body out there.

Although I did read something the other day that we're all so used to seeing bigger bodies, that someone at an actual healthy weight looks small to us. Something to think about, take with a grain of salt...

I agree BMI is a joke. I will never be in the normal weight range. I don't want to be but I will be super healthy and fit. I could care less about my BMI.

    You look amazing BTW>

BMI is a baseline for your average Joe. It doesn't factor in muscle mass or genetic factors. Unlike a lot of people, I don't feel like BMI is a total joke...but I am aware it certainly isn't fail proof. No calculator like that is.

PS:You are NOT obese..... but I'm sure you already know that.

According to my BMI, I'm overweight. Overweight with muscle. F BMI. It's only a quantifiable range if you weren't doin' much of anything but strict dieting for weight loss and level of fitness. Bodybuilders and athletes are over "normal" BMI standards.

Bodybuilders and athletes are over "normal" BMI standards.

This is true for most male athletes and lifters I know. It also doesn't figure in large frame sizes at all. I know some guys that are so broad they would be SUUUPER skinny if they got down within "normal range." BMI calculators are really only effective for your average, regular built guy/gal.

I thought you'd only be "obese" with a BMI over 30. Don't worry, you're just "overweight", that's all

agreed - im at 151 now and could conceivably get all the way down to 104. i could stand to lose another 15 probably but i would look disgusting at 104 (i think part of it is muscle and part is the boobs for me)
