Im about to start back school, and luckily for me its right rap on within the natures playground! Im going to be doing alot of hiking, bike riding, and walking trails. With this type of activity Im never sure how many calories I actually burn, so Im looking into a buying a heart rate monitor. I want something that can calculate distance, caloreis burned, and something light. Maybe in a form of a watch or a something not to big! At the moment Im not too worried about price because I know this will be a great investment. Any help or ideas, maybe a website I can check out. AlsoI dont know much about these monitors so Im also not sure what to look for when comparing brands.

I have always used the polar brand.....think I'm using the F4 now and now they have it to where you can replace the battery in the detachable part on the chest strap insead of having to buy a new one....

Polar HRM's are the best brands.
You can get a pedometer app for a smartphone if you have one - or an ipod touch. I use Footsteps. Good app.

I have a Timex which I love but it doesn't count steps or distance...Make sure you get one with a chest strap for accuracy..the wrist only ones aren't that good I am told...

I ordered one the other day, and it should arrive today - i can't wait! It was £15.99 i think, from Amazon and it counts calories and all sorts, in the form of a watch.

Just search on heart rate monitor watches and a fair few come up...i will let you know how i get on with it :o) I did want a polar one but found them really expensive (£60-70min ) and although it would be a good investment it's not something i can afford!

    Good luck

The chest strap picks up your heart beat and sends the info to the watch....the watch only doesn't monitor your heart..just the swinging of your arm and that doesn't mean anything...I can't feel my chest strap..it fits just under my bra and I don't notice it...Lots prefer the polar but my timex works great and I cross check the results at an athlete training site ...http://www.triathlontrainingblog.com/calculators/calories-burned-calculator-based-on-average-heart-rate/
Mine is between 3-10 cals off at times according to this link...
