If this is a NSV I don't want a repeat!

I think my body is liking the healthier lifestyle. Yesterday I had an "I just don't give a crap" day and reverted back to the unhealthy way of life I had before I started this process. I didn't care what I ate and it involved gummy worms, brownies, chips and salsa and at least 2 servings of a cheesy ham and hashbrown casserole for dinner. I think I ate only 2 servings of fruit yesterday instead of the 4 I usually have since I started eating healthier , I don't recall a single vegetable touching my mouth and my water intake was about half of what I normally drink. With the healthier living, I do some form of exercise every single day, even if it is just a 30 minute walk, I did absolutely NOTHING yesterday, I was a sloth!

About 7:30 last night, my body started protesting, BIG TIME!!!!! My stomach refused to continue digesting the crap I had been giving it all day and the very last thing I ate sat like a brick in my stomach all night long, I wanted to throw up but couldn't, I had such bad stomach cramps and there was nothing I could do about it.

I tried to go to bed and sleep it off, but because of the lack of exercise, I had one of the worse cases of restless legs that I have ever had ( mind you before I started the healthier lifestyle, I had a problem with restless legs at least 4 nights a week, when I started exercising every day, the problem disappeared). I so desperately wanted to get up at 1 am and go run around the block to settle my legs, but my stomach was still not happy with me and refused to let me move.

I finally got to sleep at 4 am only to wake up 2 1/2 hrs later with soooo much water retention my hands feel like I am wearing Mickey Mouse gloves and my shoes feel like they are 3 sizes to smal. And my face, my poor face, it looks like I aged 20 years overnight!!! Let's not forget the stomach troubles...they have moved south this morning, and that's all I'm gonna say about that!

I guess my body has adjusted and enjoys the healthy way of living, so from this day forward, no more crap days!

Wow, that's quite the reaction! I'm sorry you wound up going through that, but it will be a powerful reminder in the future to enjoy that kind of food only in small amounts. It's surprising how much we adapt to our changes in diet once we eat healthier foods. I hope you feel better soon and get some sleep!

Thanks for the post! I can relate to the restless leg and swollen hands issues...I had those problems before I started exercising daily. I guess your body likes being fed well. Hope you feel better soon :flowerforyou:

My body adjusted very quickly as well!
After only 2 weeks of this new lifestyle, I had some fries, and it made my tummy upset for the day. I felt sick and gross.
I had the same reaction when I had a small bag of skittles.
I guess this makes it much easier to avoid the unhealthy!

Wow! So sorry you went through all that! But you learned something and that alone should keep you from doing silly stuff like that again!! Crappy days are great work out days! Vent that frustration to feel better! :)

Wow, I really hope you feel better soon! I had a similar NSV a few weeks ago, & it took me 2 days to get over it! I agree, NO DO-OVERS!! Every time now that I think about eating crap, I remember that feeling & it is enough to turn me away from whatever is sitting in front of me! During my crap-fest, among other things, I ate about 2 bowls of Blue Bunny's new Red Velvet Cake ice cream & although I absolutely loooooove Duff Goldman (Food Network celeb chef who put his name on the flavor) I was definitely cussing him out for a couple of days!!!

The Body for Life Program discusses this kind of thing in detail (I'm not promoting the system mind you, I haven't usd it in years). It recommends a cheat day once a week for 2 reasons.

1st: It allows you to keep temptation at bay, if brownies are a weekness it is easier to say no to them today if you know you can have one, or a pan of them, in a few more days...

2nd: Because you will likely overeat that day so your body will likely feel crappy; reminding you how much better you feel eating healthy, and teaching you that if you are going to "treat" yourself to do it in moderation which is a rule for lifetime weight loss. Eventual you stop looking forward to cheat days because of how sick you get and instead desire to stick to the healthy lifestyle.

I think just about everyone has at least one of those types of days ... and (at least for me), that was ALL it took to curb future full on 'cheat' days.

I still cheat and give myself treats, but never again will I do similar to what you did because I was soooooooooo incredibly (physically) miserable.

Anytime I consider 'treating' myself more than just a little bit, I think back to the misery of that ONE day and the urge quickly subsides.

All that said - CONGRATS on having a body that now prefers a healthy life style over one that would accept junk! That is an AMAZING success!

Man, it sounds like your body SERIOUSLY told you off! I think I'd consider it to be an NSV in a way, because you know that the lifestyle change has taken effect and your body said YES!
We all have our cheat days, which is no problem in my book, but there's always tomorrow! :)
P.S. Hope your tummy feels better! D:
