Does anyone have suggestions on how to motivate myself to get out in the heat (Texas 95+) and walk/jog. I have an hour drive to work, 8 hour day, and then an hour drive home... by the time I get to the house, feed the baby and the dogs, cook dinner and tidy up all I want to do is lay on the couch and watch the shows I have recorded on my DVR. I have my gym membership on hold because until my baby is 6 months old (she is 2 months now) I can't use the KidZone. Getting up early is out of the question because I already have to be up at 0430 to get ready for work. I've been eating healthier so I am losing some weight without excersize but I want to do better. HELP!!!

Quit wanting what you don't have and have what you want!

BE the woman that finds the time to exercise in your mind and your body will follow suit.

Any chance on getting something (treadmill, stationary bike, elliptical) at home? I have a tv set up with my treadmill so I can watch all the good dvr stuff. I didn't get anything fancy and was able to keep my purchase under $500. It does what I need it to do and I've had it over a year with no probs.

    haha!! I like it!
  • You just have to do it...once you start, it's much easier to continue.

I'd recommend the Insanity workouts. They are HARD...but you just take breaks when you need them. You'll see improvements in your stamina daily, which is a great motivator. With it being a video, you have the flexibility to do it any time, at home, INSIDE. Push yourself to get out more when it cools off in the fall...find something to do inside.

Also, if you want to start light, just make yourself do 1 minute of jumping jacks, 20 push ups, and 20 sit ups every night. Bump the number every week to work your way up...by then it'll cool off and you can start going outside!

I am with you on the Texas heat! It is crazy! I know it is hard to get out there and then to leave your baby after you have been at work all day! What I try to do, when my hubby isn't at work is let him put our baby girl to bed. She goes to bed about 7:30-8:00 which is about the time the sun is starting to go behind the trees! I don't feel bad about leaving her because she is about to be asleep anyways and by the time I get back and take a shower, he is usually done putting her down (we are getting her use to her toddler bed, so it takes 30 min to an hour sometimes to get her to go to sleep before we can leave the room!) and I can spend time with him. It is a little bit cooler this way and I don't have the sun blazing down on me!

Where do I get that Insanity thing? Is it a DVD or a "game" for Playstation/Xbox? How much space do you need? Mel, you know my living room is on the small side, do you think I have enough room? .... can I just come over and test it this weekend?

Jillian Michaels has a few 20 minute DVD's that are pretty good. I am doing the 30 Day Shred right now and enjoy it.
  • It's a set of DVD's, so no game system required. (Although, the Jillian Michaels games are tough if you have a Wii!!) I think my sister ordered it, but I'll ask her. Four of us fit in my living room if we take out the chair - you aren't hopping all over the place, so if you move your coffee table you'll have PLENTY of room. You need room to do a push up. I'll email you about testing the video...maybe you and baby can come over and watch tonight...we're going to Istanbul Grill for dinner. :) It's treat night!!

Fair warning. Those videos are NO JOKE; there is not a more apt name for them than "Insanity". They are hard, and uncomfortable, and a certified butt kicking. But I've never done anything that increased my stamina as quickly, and when you do the video better than you did the day before (fewer breaks, more full out, etc.), i've never had a better sense of accomplishment! It's HARD to get motivated to kill yourself, but the guilt if you skip it is much worse. :) Go in expecting to push yourself harder than you ever have, but knowing that you WON'T be able to keep up...and that's OK.
