Hi :)
I am new to this so :-/
I have recently lost 56lb and joined this and in 10 days lost a further 6. I have lost inches and toned fairly well but my stomach * as a typical women * I want flat. Do I REALLY have to do sit ups as because I am epileptic my co ordinations will not allow me to them correctly :-/ I do the plank daily, I do my own personal leg exercises which my neurologist sent me
I run 3 miles most days and I only have another 6lb to lose so I get to 140lb and I dont really want to go under that at being 5 ft 8" tall.
Any advice would be perfect.
Thankyou so much :)
Hope everyone is having a fab day x

The only thing I have found that flattens my belly: Yoga classes. At least twice a week. Otherwise, even at 120 lbs, I still have a rounded out tummy.

Sadly, there's no way to choose where to lose fat from. Situps will NOT make stomach fat go away. All it will do is increase/tone your abs. If there's still a covering of fat there, you wont see them.

Great abs are made in the kitchen.

Good luck with the remainder of the weight losses :-D x

There's that saying that nice abs start in the kitchen...

Anyway, sit-ups are only targeting one section of abs. You want to make sure to do a variety of core exercises (and modify them to fit any limitations you may have).

If you look up yoga and power yoga on about.com you can develop an abs workout that works for you. It's a great resource and very helpful in explaining how to do particular moves.

I also like Jillian Michaels Power Yoga DVD. I got it for $8 at Target.

You could check out Jillian Michael's 6 week 6 pack. I have not done it for the full time suggested but my abs felt tighter after every 35 minute video. I ordered mine off of Amazon but you could likely find it at Target, Walmart, etc. Good luck!
  • I read somewhere that people only have visible ab muscles if they have a very low percentage of body fat, like 4-5%... which I think is unrealistic except for people who can spend 8 hours in the gym every day.

Of course, I don't remember where I read that, so it might not be entirely true.

I think the answer lies in a combination of everyone's answers. Lower your body fat percentage and do a variety of core exercises. Just crunches and sit-ups won't take care of it - they won't hurt though.

I've been doing the Zumba Fitness dvd's and other dance fitness dvd's and I can feel my abs being worked. If you have instant streaming on NetFlix, I found fitness dvd's on there.
  • Thankyou so much for your comments :-D xx

I have been doing Zumba on the wii at 20 mins starting today so HOPEFULLY something will happen :-D xx
