Well, I haven't went into plateau yet but I am very terrified of one....the question is, what are some ways to prevent and/or break a plateau quickly...

Changing up your workout, changing up what and how much you are eating etc

I've not hit one yet either...I'm hoping I don't, I've got 23lbs left and 2.5 months to get it! LOL.

Change up is a good idea.
Log EVERYTHING!! If and when you hit one, you can review things to see where something is off or needs to change.
I found that increasing calories busted through mine.
Make sure you're getting enough water.

If you do a search on here, you'll find tons of info on it, actually.

92 pounds later I'm just going to be real. Plateaus happen. There are tricks to get off them. Some of them work. Some of them don't. Sometimes the ones that worked last time, don't work this time. In the end all you can do is accept them. Wait them out. Work hard and never stop. NEVER. It's a math game. If you're eating less than it takes to support your weight, you'll lose weight. Math never lies. Just stick to the math and ignore what the scale says. And also remember, none of us got big in a day. We don't get small in a day. Take a plateau as a lesson to never let it happen again.

Rock it man. If a dinosaur like me can do it, you can too.

    Give up.

I'm kidding!! :) A quick fix for a small plateau is a "free day" (more commonly referred to as a "cheat day," but I really hate that word now). Take a day to eat significantly above your calorie goal. You don't have to go all out and eat an entire pizza, if you rather just double your portions of chicken and veggies, but a free day is your chance to really indulge. Full fat ice-cream, a three-course meal at your favorite restaurant, popcorn at the movies, etc. It doesn't always work, but it should rev up your metabolism a bit and give a good shock to the system.

If that one day quick fix doesn't work, then over a course of a week or two you can try upping calories by 100-300 per day, eating back exercise calories, zigzag calories, increasing water intake, or switching up your workout routine. You can also try limiting macronutrients such as carbs or fat, changing meal times and meal portions, or cutting out processed foods.

Last case scenario for me is to take a break/mini vacay from counting calories and exercise. Everyday is a "free day". (Okay, no. Maybe not THAT extreme, lol. At least make a conscious effort not to stuff yourself!) I know it seems really counterproductive to success, but it really works wonders. Stress can be a major factor in plateauing, and the longer you're stuck, the more stress you have.

My last piece of advice: If you ever hit a plateau, you can't be scared to change things up. You're not losing anyways, so where's the harm in experimenting a little?

weight loss is not linear although MFP would like you to believe that it is simple maths there is more to it. Don't freak out, continue to exercise and hit your calorie targets (and macros) and it generally works itself out.
