Working out but gaining weight?

Ok, so I need some advice. A few days ago I started working out using Your Shape Fitness Evolved with the kinect and I have actually gained a pound. Gut feeling tells me it's muscle build but could I really have gained a pound worth of muscle in three days? I miss getting on the scale and seeing my numbers go down every day and now I'm just depressed to see that I am actually putting in physical effort but gaining weight. Has this happened to anyone else? Any advice as to how long it'll take to see the numbers drop again?

It's very common to gain weight when starting a workout regiment. It's water weight that your body holds on to help your muscles heal. So it's not new muscle, but it's also not new fat. You're on the right track here. Keep it up the good work. And don't be discouraged by the scale. It's not giving you useful information in this case.

I agree with Taso, if you are lifting weights then take pictures and compare, also your cloths will fit better and you will see the improvement before the scales show it.

it would be hard to gain a pound of muscle in a month! as the first poster said, it is just water retention. it takes 3500 calories to gain or lose a pound so if you did not over eat or burn that much it is water. 2 glass of water is about a pound.

Thanks! Even being a nurse, I still don't get that kind of stuff. I know I shouldn't go by the scale but being a woman automatically makes me think that weight matters over all. How long will it take for me to quit gaining water weight?

How long will the body get use to the new regimen---I've been working out for 6 weeks and actually gained 3-4 pounds. I run on the treadmill for 15-20 minutes every morning or after work and 15 minutes of lifting weights...I was at 135 when I started, then 139 in 4 weeks, but today I weighed myself and now down to 136. Weird but probably normal, right?

after losing 3lb/week without exercise for 3 month, I started to gain when I started to exercise. it took over a month (and slight intake increase) to resume weight loss.
