So I registered on another site...just to see what it was like (I feel like I cheated on MFP...lol). I am not sure if I am allowed to mention the name of the site...but I am going to ...Livestrong....Based on my weight...age...height....and losing 2 pounds ays week...It said I should be eating 893 calories a day ....I have heard over and over that 1200 is the minimum amount that we should consume....Why would they suggest 893? I now find myself questioning myself and feel like maybe I am eating too much. Has anyone else ever found that other sites recomend a lower caloric intake than MFP?

  • Probably the first issue is losing 2 pounds a week. The recommended weekely weight loss is 1 pound per week. If you asjust that I bet it will bring you back up over the 1200 calorie mark. I am certainly not a nutrition expert by any means, but 893 calories a days seems VERY low to me.

They say something 100 + pounds to lose 2 lbs a week loss is okay
    -100-40 1 lb a week loss
under 40 lbs to lose should only aim for 1/2 a week loss.

I haven't found another site, but...Are you losing weight eating the calories MFP set for you? If so, then you must be doing something right!!!! Your body has to have food to fuel it for everyday activities. If you are losing weight with what you are doing then don't worry so much. Less than 900 calories a day sounds pretty low!!!!

I just recently saw my physician who is monitoring my weight loss, he went off my BMR. He said to keep my caloric intake beneath it and I am sure to continue losing. Something to consider. Good luck! :)

depends how much you have to lose - 2lbs a week is not an unhealthy loss!!

893 is very low, I wonder if you would be hungry all the time because 1200 calories (as far as I'm aware) is the lowest amout of calories needed to keep our bodies functioning. If you eat less that this you may go into starvation mode and hinder your weight loss.

    good luck!!!

This is true...893 calories is way too low of it will not just cause your body to go into starvation mode it will cause your body to be malnutrition. I have studied nutrition and you do not want to go below 1200 calories. As is 1200 calories is already low and are advised to people that are considered obese according to their BMI. As you lose your calorie intake should get higher not lower. Once you reach your goal you would want to use your BMR calories to keep you at that weight.
