So I read in a Hungry girl email to liven up plain yogurt and save on sugar, add 1/2 of a sugar free drink mix packet....So I finally tried it out today with my greek yogurt. I like greek yogurt, but hated the plain, but I bought a plain and mixed in 1/2 a packet (the ones for a bottle of water) of Crystal Light Wild Strawberry, and it is yummy!!!! 7g of sugar instead of 19g in the strawberry greek yogurt (I get cho bani)

Even better is just to add in fresh fruit. While you get a bit more sugar, it's all natural. You get added fiber too and no chemicals. Hungry Girl has some good ideas, but she uses way to many processed/packaged foods for me.

I sweeten mine with a packet of Stevia and some vanilla extract.

Add a little agave. It's natural and got a better GI than honey but tastes similar. It's quite sweet so you only need... less the a tablespoon!

sometimes the yogurts with added sugar are lower in calories than plain yogurts.. which is a healthier option? also does anyone know how much lactose would be in plain yogurt?? ..so confused about added /naturally occuring sugars! lol

Definitely go lower sugar, higher fat. Our bodies weren't built to process all the sugar we expose to it. Sugar is hidden in almost everything packaged, plus fruit and essentially carbs are turned to sugars as well! That is a heap of sugar! Sugar creates an insulin spike in your blood and when it falls it makes you feel hungry (even though your body doesn't need more energy), then you end up craving more sugar! More fat will keep you full for longer. If you want to know more about the effects of sugar just google it or watch the doco 'fat head'.

I agree that Hungry Girl uses too many processed foods in her recipes...but some are not so bad..I tried this tip because I am always looking for ways to make plain greek yogurt edible..just adding fresh fruit doesn't take away the bitterness of the plain yogurt..Instead of regular Crystal Light, I have been using the lemon Pure Crystal Light, whichis sweetened with Truvia and 3 grams of sugar..so a bit more "natural"..I add a dollop of Tru Whip, which is a more natural form of Cool Whip (no HCF) and a crumbled Biscoff cookie..delish! Tastes like lemon meringue pie..and helps with sweet cravings...
