Mentally logging while on vacation

Back from my 5 day vacay in beautiful British Columbia. I can remember my breakfasts and dinners. I tried to stick with healthy snacks......almonds, dried fruits, a bit of licorice, also enjoyed some chocolate covered raisins, beer, pancakes. Can't say I really "went wild" with food, but didn't always choose the lowest calorie options. Our activities included MUCH more walking than I would normally do, and I got to the hotel elliptical twice , but once for only 20 minutes and the other for a half hour. So..... do I go back and try to log food and exercise--- or go with my instinct to just log carefully starting today again? Trying to drink lots of water to offset the increased sodium intake......what else can I do so I'm not discouraged by that number on the scale in a few days?

Personally, I'd skip logging the vacation meals, they are done and over with...it was a vacation, hopefully a good one!0

I head to Vancouver and the islands in 3 days! For 3 weeks! So excited! But am a little worried about logging as well. I agree with trailriderdee, what is done is done. Just start back logging today and don't get bogged down by the past. Welcome back!0

I would skip logging the vacation meals unless you have them wrote down.0

I wasn't able to log for a few days, and I now realize that this will happen. But being new to this, for me, I need to be connected to the process here. Therefore, "mentally logging" works, in my opinion. Why? Because for one thing, it shows that you are inextricably linked to your goal and that you are conscious of what you eat, even when you know you cannot log.
If I am not able to log, I ask myself 2 critical questions: 1. is this healthy? 2. could I imagine logging this, if it is bad for me?
I am not weighing myself when I am not logging.
But when I resume, there is an assessment; weight checkin. If I have gained something out of my range, then I have a standard and I will probably revert to logging, but you have to be disciplined and you have to maintain some structure, even without logging.
Mental logging works.
I am down just under 7lbs.
Good luck!

I choose never to log in the past unless it is something like last nights meal....the past is the past and there is nothing that you are able to do about it now (whether its good or bad); plus your memory does fade so it will never to 100% perfect. Just look forward from today and make all the right choices. It sounds like you were as good as you could be therefore be pleased with your effort and start again.
Well done & good luck Vx0 -

I agree with this ) I'm going on a vacation next Friday for a month and I won't be able to track down everything I ate. Also, I won't track it down when I come back..0 -
My plan for vacations is to not log it and then not weigh myself until a week after I'm back on my diet and workout plan. Granted I probably will step on it out of curiosity, but I'm going to try to not step on that scale for a week!0

I'm with you Ragtime Lady! No excuses for me not to log with my iPhone too. Dootzy, sounds like you did a great job maintaining. You were active and made good choices. Now, it's back to the grind!0

Thanks all---- I will put it behind me and hope I didn't do too much damage. Of course, I just hope not to see a gain, but in that case, I know that it will be temporary!0
