Scale Vs Me...& not eating enough?

I have the tendancy to always want to go on the scale daily and see how im doing, sometimes twice daily ..... ill check in the am and be one weight then it will change and go higher at night for some reason its confusing and discouraging. How do i get myself to stop obsessing? Also I have a hard time reaching my goals for the day, as far as not eating enough..any suggestions on what healthy things to eat to hit that goal? I do work out 3x a week, drink my water, but im also on phentermine so don't feel like eating at all.....help!

I was the same way for a while. for me, there were two key changes: (1) here's my mantra: "weight LOSS is not my goal. My goal is to eat healthy, and keep caloric intake inline with what I need" If it's ALL about seeing numbers go down on a scale, if you're anything like I, when you don't see the instant cause-effect gratification of working hard--> lower #s, you get upset and think about giving up at some point. That is super counter productive. It's not a short-term game. The cause and effect sometimes lag for natural reasons-- water weight, stress, etc. (2) weigh yourself 1x per week. no more, no less. Give yourself only 1 do-over per week. If you HATE the #s you see on the timed weigh-in for the week. done and done. hope that helps! :-)0

I plan my main ingredients first .. .this am I had coffee, low cal toast and egg whites.. to boost my calories I added a tbls of Peanut butter.. NOW that I'm eating more calories the weight is starting to drop again.. I was in starvation mode for 2 weeks and I hated it!0

Put your scale somewhere where it is difficult to get down to jump on constantly. ONLY bring it out once per week, first thing in the morning on the same day. I actually put mine out in our detached garage for months until I could get over my obsession with it.
Most importantly, don't take any medication unless it is required for a disease or dire medical need. Shortcuts do not work and just mess up your body. The only way to lose weight and gain better health is by eating as clean as you can (NO processed or junk), drink that water, exercise, and EAT those calories. You will have to play around to find your own "sweet spot" of calories in vs. exercise but you can find it with some experimentation.
Treat your body like the amazing temple it is and like you only deserve the best!0 -
I am the same, just grab the scales and put them away in a cupboard for a week. Only get them out when you use them, then you won't be as tempted to jump on whenever you're in the bathroom!0

You're right, thank you I needed to hear that.. I just need to push myself to stay positive and know it doesn't happen overnight..im just really not sure if i should keep taking the meds..i have first months progress appointment on wednesday so i have to decide by then what i wanna do about the phentermine0 -
You could put your scale away somewhere where you can't see it (a closet maybe) and take it out only once a week to weigh. ....Same time every week!0

I'm a scale *kitten*. But really, you're going to weigh more at night because of all you've eaten and drank throughout the day. If you're really struggling with obsessing over the scale, perhaps get rid of the scale for a while. Then, after a while, bring it back when you can weigh yourself on your terms.
I was on phentermine in the beginning, as well. Try to stay away from foods that claim to be "low fat" or "low calorie." Eat the real thing. You'll probably feel more satisfied, and you'll not risk as much going under your calorie goals.
And don't forget to measure yourself. That may help some of your scale obsession if you start to see changes in your measurements.0 -
you gain weight during the day because you're eating! food in your gut weighs more when you just ate it and haven't digested/excreted it. weigh in the morning after you use the bathroom with no clothes on. its the most consistent way. stop getting on the scale so much. easy as that.
if you're on an appetite suppressant of course you're not going to want to eat! either ditch the pills and count calories or use the pills. the systes aren't designed to work together.0 -
Make some non-scale goals for yourself....like adding an extra day or an extra 10 minutes to your work outs. Also only allow yourself to weigh your self every other day for a awhile then go down to just once a week. Pick a certain day and stick to it. And its best to weigh yourself in the AM, weight always goes up in the evening. I don't know if you already do this but if you are having trouble eating enough calories, try eating five small meals a day.0

I am guilty of weighing myself several times a day as well. I did it when I was 70 pounds heavier and I still do it now, it's just right there and yes it can be discouraging but It has actually helped me a lot. For example I realized that when I ate more of my exercise calories back the day before, I lost weight. When I drank more water the day before, I lost weight. When I ate at applebees the night before I gained 3 pounds int he morning of sodium and water weight. IT helped me get the numbers I wanted to see because I learned from what changes were happening in my body. If I gained a pound int he morning I would just drink more water that day and make it a goal and most times that pound is gone. Don't get discouraged but use those numbers to make better changes in your life0

i have been adding alot more peanut butter to beable to even get close to my calories...i usually stay around 1000 cals (yes i know this is not good but i'm not gonna stuff myself)0

Nothing you've written makes me think that you're "obsessing". You're checking your weight because you want know if you've lost weight. That would seem to be a pretty normal thing for a person who is trying to lose weight, right?
Keep doing what you're doing. Eat right, exercise, and keep a good attitude. Those are an excellent foundation.0 -

I think that is very good advice. I have been on a prolonged plateau which I have found found most frustrating. I seemed to be doing everything right but the weight remained the same. However, I have noticed that my clothes are definitely looser at the waist and bust and I had to buy a new sports bra because the old one was no longer giving me support. The measurements are telling the story!!
I do weigh myself almost daily but only first thing in the morning. I have also increased my calorie consumption (on medical advice). The weight is slowly creeping down but it isn't like the early,heady days when I could drop 5 lbs a week!!0 -
Thank you everyone for the great advice! Ill be taking everything you all said into consideration of course... but does anyone have any ideas on phentermine? I don't know if i should keep at it or not.0
