Energy consumption in super hot weather?

Everyone knows that we burn more calories when the weather is cold in order to keep warm.
What happens to BMR and energy consumption with exercise when the temperatures are unusually hot and humid (as in recent days here in the upper Midwest)? (I know most people have air conditioners but ours has been out of action).
