well if you have a doc appt then i'd just relax your shoulder, dont work it out or stretch it..it could be making it worse..especially if you've torn some tendons/ rotator cuff etc.

the pills you are likely talking about are probably muscle relaxers. they may or may not help. but if you dont of course take to many they wont harm you. so all you can do is try and see. if they dont help, stop taking them.

other than that..relax and tough it out till your doc appt

Acupuncture works for me for these kinds of things ... You could try that to descrease pain and get loosened up. Hope this helps.

Could it be posture related from your workplace? I have had problems in the past with my right shoulder and they come back when I have been sitting in a funny position for a long time. Also, a sudden drop in temperature can make it flare up. Try putting on an extra sweater or hot patch. In extreme situations where I can't sleep I find Nurofen Express tablets (ibuprofen) work wonders.

My life changed when I started practicing Yamuna Body Rolling (yamunabodyrolling.com), found a great teacher who also teaches yoga. It is amazing what streching out the body can actually do for your aches and pains, although it takes time and patience to change your bodies. Another thing you can do to release tension and knots in your back and shoulders is to stand next to a wall and put a tennis ball between your back or shoulders and the wall. You can dig in to all sorts of places and you control the pressure.
