Got a 2 week vacation coming up - 1st week will be all-inclusive, so no $$$ limitations ... :noway: 2nd week will be grocery store, cook my own, go out, etc.

How do you handle food on vacation? Go crazy? Stay on normal diet? Somewhere in between?

This is a scuba diving vacation - first week will be on a live aboard (yacht) so about 4-5 dives per day. 2nd week on land in a condo - some diving, some sight seeing.

I've just come back from hols and not done any damage on the scale! Miracle or what?! I didn't deprive myself i had an icecream most days and wine with dinner. I got a fair bit of exercise though, you do more than your think on hols. We went for a walk every morning and a swim most days and carrying around beach stuff in the heat of the day it all takes it out of you. The main thing really is to just listen to your body, don't eat just wheatevers in front of you, have high protien breakfast especially if your doing lots of diving and then just let yourself get hungry before you eat the next thing and ask yourself what do I really want/need right now? The biggest problem with all inclusive or hotel breakfasts is just eating whats in front of you. On your second week you'll be able to be really healthy when cooking for yourself, if you want to be!

I posted a thread a little like this which might be of interest: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/297095-how-do-you-stay-healthy-in-your-social-life

I know I went on holiday a couple of months ago and it completely messed up my weight loss (put on half a stone over 3 weeks and another half over the next month as I didn't get back on track). I have only just got back on track now after finding MFP. I guess just try and enjoy yourself and have things in moderation, and make sure you get a bit of exercise in too if you can! :)

Or, if you want to forget it all and enjoy yourself, just make sure you can get back on track *straight away* when you get back home.

    Have a great time :)

I know when I scuba dive I burn a ton of calories, so I wouldn't worry too much, just try to make sensible choices. There will always be salad and stuff to fill up on and then you can have some of the good stuff as well. You should definitely also make sure you're eating for you, rather than matching what others are eating - all the diving instructors I know eat tons and tons, but they do basically work out all day, every day!

Wow, sounds like one heck of a VACA. You could just calculate the calories required to maintain your current weight. Then go with that for the 2 weeks. That'll let you better enjoy yourself without packing on a trophy.

I have done both, and found that stickign to my lifestyle change was both phsyically and psychologically healthier.

One one vacation I went with my BFF, who eats healthy anyway. She also walks to all events if at all possible. Rents bikes, not motor scooters, tries new things...............such as canoeing or paddle boarding.

I ate healthy, did not count a calorie the entire time, and LOST 2 pounds:noway:

My attitude was great when I returned to normal life, and I didn't have to kick the sodium/sugar issues again.

The 2nd time I was in a mood.:grumble: So I just threw my hands in the air and ate what I wanted (or thought I wanted:huh: ?)

I put on weight, it took me a month to get back to eating normal (for me healthy is normal now!) and I felt like crap.

I felt guilty, sad, depressed and very embarrased.

I would say that living your life the way you want it to be lived in a healthy manner, you will find your choices are better and you do not feel cheated at all!

Just my humble opinion from my experience:flowerforyou:
