So, I just started running, and I've only done one 5k so far...but I really want to run the Disney Princess Half in February of 2012...is that even realistic?

Also, does anyone have any training tips? I"ve never trained for anything before!

Any women who are running this or want to run this add me! I could use some support cuz as of now, I'll be running it by myself!!

    Go to HalHigdon.com

This website has many training programs from beginner to Expert to help you get prepare to run a half marathon...I used it to help me train for the three half marathons that I did.
  • Awesome, thanks!

I started running in March and am planning on doing the Princess Half Marathon. It's close to 7 months away. No biggie. There's lots of training programs out there (I'm looking for a good one right now). Most are 10-12 week programs, so you may have to have to tweak it a bit (maybe stay on each week for 2 weeks or so).

    Feel free to add me!
  • You go woman! That sounds like fun but I will not be running in the Disney Princess Half Marathon-maybe a goal for next year?! I would recommend checking out the training programs they have on the Runner's World website or if you subscribe to the mag, they always have different plans to use. I just did my first half a few months ago and I recommend having a workout schedule for every day of the week so that you know what you're supposed to be doing. Also, make sure you take rest/cross train days so you don't get too burnt out. Lots of water & electrolytes when it's hot, along with bananas for potassium. And, stretch and use a foam roller on your legs especially after your long runs. That's a lot, but trust me, in practice it'll just get easier. Congrats on taking on a good challenge! I will definitely add ya for support-I've been thinking about signing up for another one myself. :)

I would love to be in this marathon. I can't run due to my knees and its hard to get a walking time down to less then 16 minutes for that distance. I say go for it! If I can get my speed up I want to for sure. I have heard they book up early you might want to register soon. :)

I have always been a jogger but not for much more than 5k-10k at a time. I ran a half marathon in June and only trained 3 months for it. You have tons of time! My tips are do more than just running, do a lot of strength training on your legs (i did the insanity dvd workouts to help get in shape for it because it got my legs in shape and got my cardio up), and I have not personally tried this method but after my marathon I was told that for my next one I should try the "run for 10min, walk for 1min" method to give your legs time to recuperate during the race. (I noticed a lot of runners doing that) People who have tried it said that they had better times than when they just ran through the whole thing.
  • Yeah, I really want to make sure to incorporate strength...I'm excited/super nervous about this whole training thing!
