protein question

I wanted to get an opinion on protein. I an very active but currently trying to loose weight. It's
been brutally hot in NYC therefore I have been opting for smoothies
for breakfast instead of oatmeal. The smoothies don't fill me up as
much as the oatmeal so for the last two days I have been adding
protein. I mentioned this to a friend and he said the protein is going
to make me gain weight even if I use it as a meal replacement.
Oes anyone know if this is true?

Don't know the science so someone else will have to help you with that. I just know that getting enough good protein helps you feel full/satisfied longer. I think you should just wait and see how your body handles it and not worry about this one opinion. Good luck.0

be mindful of your calories and carbs - check your protein powder to make sure its nothing too crazy - i like the zero carb options. I add it to my oatmeal sometimes bc it keeps me fuller longer. Do what works for you... if you are able to add the protein and keep hunger at bay longer to stay within your caloric intake goals for the day without feeling hungry, I say do it : )0

If you're working out, protein will help repair your torn/worked muscles and help you build lean muscle. Lean muscle helps you burn fat more readily. Protein does have calories, so it could make you gain weight that way if you're eating more than you need to. But I don't think adding a scoop of protein to your morning smoothie is going to suddenly make you explode in size.0

that is totally a false statement. When you eat you have that is called the thermogenic effect. That is the calories that your body burns for digestion. When you eat protein you immediately burn 27% of those calories you just ingested in the digestion process. So if you eat 100 calories of protein, you are actually only eating 73 calories because of digestion. For carbs you burn 8% for digestion, and fat you burn 3%. See you have to eat the right kind of protein. If you eat stuff like steak, or other things that have protein but also high in fat.. you gain weight because of the fat. If you eat tuna, eggs, baked chicken, baked fish, nuts, stuff like that you won't gain weight. If you are working out the protein rebuilds your muscles and speeds up your metabolism. Never let anyone tell you protein will make you gain weight. I recommend you get 50% of your calories from good carbs, 20% from fat, and 30% from protein... That is a good weight loss diet, but make sure your carbs are fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and fiber!! And your fats are monounsaturated or polysaturated fats.0
