I'm going on vacation on Friday; the first vacation since I started my weight loss journey. I want to enjoy myself and truly be on vacation, but I don't want to completely fall off the wagon. Its a beach vacation and we're renting a house. I have never watched my calories on our beach vacation before so I'm not sure how my calories will stack up. I eat breakfast and dinner normally and can estimate that pretty well, but we snack all day at the beach, plus have dessert treats, and alcohol consumption is higher than normal (but I don't drink much, so its not too outrageous).

I guess what I'm asking is...

-Should I try to stick to my 1200 calories per day? Or should I let loose and enjoy my vacation without thinking about it?

-Should I spare some (limited) space to pack workout clothes? Or should I give myself the week off?

What do you guys do when you go on vacation? Any tips?

Well, here's how I see it... It takes 3 weeks to develop a habit, and only 3 days to fall out of it. TRY to stick to the 1200 calories, but allow room for some yummy snacks! Bring fruit on the beach... a healthy sub....pack a SMALL bag of chips.. I know its easy to devour the huge ones on vacation! I wouldn't concern myself with logging as much as just realizing what I'm eating. Stay in the mindset! But if you can log, hell why not! If you drink, make sure you stick to the clear stuff! I mean.. hell yeah have a pina colada if you want, but only one or two cuz the calories sure stack up! YES, pack workout clothes!! Go jogging, or walking along the beach! There is nothing better!! Vacations are the easiest ways to gain 10 pounds back, so be careful! I should also add here that I'm pretty strict with myself... so my advice isn't always the best to take :P

But MOST IMPORTANTLY!!!!! Have fun!!! :o)

Also, GREAT job on your journey thus far!! You are doing amazing!

Personally, I don't worry about it too much. I try to get in a walk after dinner to help burn off some of those extra calories, but for the most part I just go ahead and enjoy myself. When you get back, then you'll need to make sure you get back on track.

not tons of help but I am going away myself in August and my plan is to let me eat/drink what ever I want but I am going to take workout clothing and still get a hour per day in at the hotels gym room. I personaly do not drink much other than water / ocasional pop but eatting out is going to happen the entire time for each meal while we are out since we will not have a kitchen access where we are. I am prepairing myself for alittle added weight when I get back but it should be much maby 2-3pounds since I will still be getting in my workouts and drinking my water

While I was on vacation I set my calories to maintenance. I also enjoyed sweets, but made sure I ate healthy as much as I could. I cooked meals because i like to cook and could control my calories that way. Result? no weight gain. Just a suggestion:flowerforyou:

It depends on where you go, what you do and for how long.

I am off to Kenya next week for a fortnight. I don't think that there's wifi so no logging in for me.

Personally I will keep a mental note of what I have on a daily basis but not beat myself up if I go over, I will go for two or three runs, swim (most days) and snorkel and go on a safari so also be reasonably active.

I lost my weight seven years ago and everytime I go on holiday I manage to stay the same weight by doing the above. I don't really drink alcohol so that obviously helps but I do try and drink plenty of water.

    Good Luck
