Any thoughts? I don't have an HRM/calorie counter yet, though I'm looking for one now. It'll just be me and my mp3 player. I start training in the morning! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Do you have a smartphone? (Android, iPhone, Blackberry)? If so, there are a lot of apps that will log your distance, speed, calories burned, etc (based on your speed/distance and your height/weight). I use CardioTrainer.

If you're running outside, you can use a site like runkeeper.com or mapmyrun.com to plot your course, then plug in your total time spent for an estimate based on your average pace.

I don't use a HRM. I used a website that calculates calories burned based on your age, weight, and the type of exercise. I added up how many minutes I jogged and how many minutes I walked and then entered them separately. Now that I'm jogging the entire time, I enter my time and distance into a running web site to get my pace and enter that info into the calories burned calculator.
