A couple of interesting articles that both say that, yes, total amount of calories is important, but it is just as important (if not more so) that you eat the right foods and get those calories from the right places.

Quick synopsis: Those gaining the least amount of weight got 6-8 hours of sleep, exercised, drank less alcohol, watched less TV and ate healthier foods, including veggies, fruits, whole grains, nuts, and yogurts. More weight gain was most strongly associated with the intake of potato chips, potato products, sweetened beverages, sweets, and red meats.

    Very interesting, i passed them on to some friends who eat potato chips every day.

    Hmmm. I guess I straddle the line. I'm a vegan that loves cocktails and snacks (which include processed foods).
