Exercising After Surgery

I'm having surgery this Wednesday to have a hernia repaired. I know I won't be able to do anything hard for awhile, but about a week or so after I have the surgery, I'd like to start walking again....just want to get about 30 minutes or so in a day.
How did you stay on track after having a surgery?

I had a c-section, and a month later my gall bladder removed. I forced myself to walk! Walk walk walk...it all adds up. Be diligent about tracking! You will get through it..just remember it is temporary. Get on here often and focus on small accomplishments! You can do it and good luck with ur surgery!0

Exercise looks like it will be off the table for a while; so I would think that calories and nutrition would be the only tool you have left. In all seriousness, I'd suggest that you plan this recovery period to be a point where you just try to maintain where you are.
There will be time to drop more weight, after you are recovered; no need to exert and possibly hurt yourself some more.0 -
Where is this hernia located? I doubt you will be in any shape 1 week after surgery to walk 30 minutes a day. I have had 4 hernia suregeries...0

My surgery wasn't that intense but, I did have LASIK and I am not allowed to get anything near or around my eyes including sweat!!! That makes it very difficult for me because every thing I do causes me to sweat a ton!! So I am just going to go light for a week and hope for the best... Best wishes to you on Wednesday!0

I've had 2 hernia repairs and was surprised how quick I was back to my normal routine. The first one took me a few days to get back to walking a long period of time but the 2nd one was almost right away! It may depend on where the hernia is too though. Mine were both umbilical hernias. I also have severe diastis recti (split abdomen) so they didn't have to cut into any muscle. That could be why I healed quicker since I just had another surgery about 6 weeks ago on my lower abdomen where they did cut into muscle and it definitely took me down completely for about a week. Almost 100% back to normal though Best of luck to you and just don't try to do too much the first couple of days. But you should be back to normal in no time!0

Until your doc gives you clearance, then take the time to heal. Nothing worse than injury or causing injury to the area that just got fixed.0

I totally agree with this. LISTEN to the surgeon!0
