so i know that gym machines way overestimate calorie count and so does this site. i'm playing broomball tonight and for 15 minutes, its giving me a little over 100 calories. does that sound right? i've been cutting what the machine says in half for exercise calories. should i do the same for broomball? the game is 30 minutes but we have a big team so i'll only have about 15 minutes play time so should i even bother adding that to exericise?

thanks for your help in advance.

I went to this site and you have to put in your weight....Might be a bit more accurate? Then again it depends on how much you put into it.

I can type in baseball....but if I am a bench warmer I sure wont burn many calories!!!!

It is really hard to get a good count without the HRM.

I always think of baseball cuz my son was a catcher. One of the moms in the stand once said the boys shouldnt be too tired after the game to run a lap, because all they do is stand around and hope the ball comes to them.

I said not MY kid, he has to catch and throw back every pitch!!! Minimum of 9 an inning, 45 a game and that is if the pitcher has a no hitter!!

Good luck and have fun at broomball!!

Most exercise machines over estimate by about 10% to 30%. I automatically assume a 20% difference. So, if the machine at the gym says that I burned 400 calories, I automatically subtract 80 calories. I generally do the same thing with estimates on this site. I just assume a 10% to 20% varience. I also, generally, assume that I've underestimated my food calories by about 10%.

Your body becomes accustomed if you do the same exercise at the same intensity level all the time and will burn less calories so I change up what I'm doing everyday and change the intensity. I also do a lot of interval cardio to keep my body from getting too comfortable in the routine.

I think you have to experiment with the numbers a little until you find the right combo for your body.

It's not the most accurate or scientific method, but it seems to be working and it's free. I just can't convince myself to put out the money for a monitor unless/until I've hit a wall.
