anti-depressants and CBT

I'm wondering if anyone here has tried cognitive behavioural therapy?

I've been on anti-depressants for over 5yrs now for anxiety issues. The problem isn't that I gained 30lbs when first started taking medication, it's that I can't take it off! :grumble: it's really frustrating. that, coupled with the fact that I'm almost 40 and my metabolism is going down hill. :ohwell:

Recently I found out that my insurance covers 30/sessions a year :drinker: so I've got my first appointment on Tuesday. CBT, I'm hoping, will help me with my anxiety and eventually get me off the medication!

so I'd love to hear thoughts or experiences. I've worked so darn hard and really feel like the medication is keeping me back. I'd love to be off it!

  • I am a firm believer in CBT! I have been on anti-depressants for many years, but without the CBT I would not be alive today. The two work so well in conjunction. The medication allowed me to get to a place where I could deal with the issues. I did gain weight, but I have also lost the weight while still on the meds. It can be done. I have not had an anxiety attack in years and panic attacks are a thing of the past. I feel amazing and there is color in my life.
