how do you deal with temptations?

I went out for lunch with a co worker and we went to a grease pit. I did my research before leaving and had my mind in having the hawaiian salad with dressing on the side. We get there and she tells me that she has a craving for chicken fingers and makes a face at my food choice. Well of course my mouth starts to water with the thought of the fingers. Now I feel like crap. How do you handle this? How do you make yourself remember how you will feel if you eat the bad choice? I am so disgusted with myself. I was back on the wagon this morning. I know I can do this. But I need to find a will power.

I wish I wasn't a food adict.

I don't keep myself from eating anything, because that has ALWAYS led to me binging. In your situation, I would ignore the face your friend made, eat a half a chicken finger (or hell eat the whole chicken finger. it's not like you're eating the whole basket!). Or, opt for grilled chicken on your salad. You'll still get the chicken flavor without all the garbage. And think about how good you'll look when you've reached your goal :)

I had a bad weekend myself... didnt go over board... but didnt make the best choices... when explaining my frustrations about this weekend, my co-worker told me what works best for her...

She says to herself.... Nothing tastes as good, as being skinny feels...

Who knows, might work for you... Im going to give it a shot

First I try not to eat in places I don't know.
Second I associate with people that support my decisions.
Third I know I'm doing THIS for ME!

and for some reason, should I indulge.. I do like you! Start right back on with the next thing I put into my mouth..

    You'll be ok.. *HUG*

My trainer and I had a great conversation about this same subject this morning. He told me that the best way to deal with temptation is to allow yourself a cheat day once a week. 1. You'll work your butt off FOR that cheat day by eating clean and exercising and 2. You'll work your butt off after the cheat day because you'll feel crappy... either way, you're burning off a lot more calories than you're consuming and you're not risking the binge eating.

Yeah. It's funny how coworkers will deliberately sabotage your regimen. Family members will do this too. Anyway, one calorie offensive meal shouldn't knock you out of the race, so it's time to get back up on the pony, and continue to count those calories, including all the ones in those chicken fingers.

When I have a bad temptation, I think to myself " A year from now you will wish you had started today"! And this is so true for me.
I had a very bad weekend but I am back on track today and I will not fall again and if I do, then I get back up again and keep going.

Unfortunately, I don't deal well with temptation.

A few weeks ago, my BIL and family came in town and met us for dinner. I checked the restaurant's website and picked out what I was going to order. I was gonna be good.

10 mins in, and I'm ordering a bad appetizer and even worse entree. I just don't have willpower at restaurants. This is why I don't eat out.

Thanks guys!!! I have no will power at all. That is why I try to stay away from this crap. And my co worker is a bigger girl too and when i am on the loosing train she gets jealous. I should have stuck to my guns. I do thin that nothing will taste better then being healthy!!!

I agree with everyone's advice! And boy do I know exactly how you feel! Why do we keep doing this? I am pretty new to MFP and it has helped me so much...my head is in the game again and I am on the right track. I have a co worker who has lost 30# so far just by eating 1/4 to 1/2 of her meals and she hits the gym regularly. I am taking her lead! I am logging in and making good choices but when chicken fingers and burgers are in my face I just eat half, and hit the gym or go for a walk

Get back on the horse - you'll make it!!!!!

I have two cheat "meals" a week, but always plan for them. And I try not to go completely overboard (as in, eat so much I want to die).

In your case, I'd think to myself: "Is this the best _________ (chicken fingers, cupcake, brownie, cake, burger, etc.) that I can imagine eating right now?" If not, then I pass it up and wait until that perfect, ideal, burger is in sight. <3

I'm on the side that says just eat a chicken finger! You're not going to die or gain 20 pounds because you had a chicken finger. There are no bad foods, just bad portion sizes.

I like this advice...all things in moderation! Eat it and log it and move on. :)

I have a family member like that! I used to be weak at "sticking to my guns" so to speak. For staying on track, I give myself a little reward at home afterward. Thankfully, I no longer crave greasy foods. It took a loooooong time though. I'm an "all or nothing" personality type... so I would rather cut it out all together.

I go to the restroom and lift my shirt and look at my abs/stomach. Then I ask myself, do they really need or want this? The answer is always NO! But I do plan a "anything goes" day once a month.
