Hey there ladies (and gents if you too, if you like!)
I have a wedding to go to in September, and while I am trying to use the wedding as a goal to push towards in my weight loss, I also want to get a dress that is flattering to my figure so that I can look good even though I have this newly acquired baby belly to contend with now.

Any suggestions on a style of dress that would look good on someone who has an ample bosom and hour glass figure? I also have nice calves so I am thinking that a just below the knee length might be good for me, but I'm just so lost at where to start. What style of dress do you ladies have that is fitted, but helps hide the leftover baby pouch? I really love mod styles and bright colors, but basic black might hide things better...what do you think?

Ok. Tea length all the way, go A-line - you just cannot lose with those options when you have a booty! A design will always help hide extra weight or ambitious curves very well. Stay away from plain colors. I hope that helps!

For your body type i would suggest a wrap dress or a dress with a band beneath the breast. This will help to hide the weight around the tummy and highlight the smaller part of your waist. Also, just above the knee would be good to show off your legs. Since it is summer time, if you like floral, go for it. I love floral print!

Some kind of a faux wrap dress with gathers or "rouching" on the side, fitted in the bodice, and a full skirt. I have one that is perfect that I can wear at ANY weight. Wore it a few weeks ago at 160 and wore it to a wedding just after having a baby at 175.

OK...for your figure, which is lovely! I think you should go for something, one shoulder which is all the fashion at the moment, fitted to your knees, for your tummy area you want something that sweeps across the front but in the same material so it fits in with the dress....I will try and find a picture and send a link via message to you...:o)

Empire waist is perfect for camouflaging a bit of bulge. You can use a belt or long scarf to belt the dress right under your chest to create the effect of an itty bitty waist. Any type of a-line is also nice - flares away from the body creating a clean line.
  • I think In Style magazine once recommended a wrap dress which draws attention to the cleavage and draws the waist in.

something along the lines of this.....just my opinion, you want to show off your figure, not sure what colours you prefer...?

I am a big fan of fitted bodice with it gathered right under the bust then draping from there.
  • I agree with the other ladies that said wrap dress. I have lost a lot of weight since my posted pic and I still have a stomach to contend with. A wrap dress or faux wrap dress would be a very good thing emphasizing the smallest part of you under your bust. I have worked with wedding and formal wear as an alterationist for a number of years and that is what most of the ladies would probably chose. Please no black though for a wedding guest, chose a flattering color or print that is tasteful for this type of affair. Have a good time.

Choose what ever suits you best...and buy Spanx. Those things work miracles. I got married 4 months after I had my daughter and you wouldn't have known.
