Good on ya Man, there is absolutely nothing good that alcohol does for your diet. As for the pointers though, as a non-drinker I can't help you there but congrats's again :)

I like to drink too and it was undermining my goals big time. The best advice I have is to NOT quit completely. Allow yourself a drink or two once a week and measure it. I measure mine by the ounce and if I mix, I use coke zero. I also make sure I have the calories left for it too. I don't feel guilty and I don't feel deprived. Hope this helps!
  • I have a weakness for gin, and first I switched from tonic to club soda to reduce calories, and then I started using a half shot instead of a full shot. It's worked well - just ween yourself by diluting and reducing the serving bit by bit so you can still get that taste but not all of the calories/drunkenness!

Good luck! I wish I had pointers, but I will not give up alcohol to lose weight. I've cut down, but I won't quit.

there was something I read about how to drink without gaining:

I don't know, I like to drink too, I think you can factor it into your calories and still lose, but if you are down to the last couple of pounds it might mean being really strict with your diet, but then it will just come back whenever you binge...

I need to follow the above advice. I think it is smart. ;)

When I gave up alcahol I had either soda water or diet tonic in the fridge and had a glass of that with either lemon juice or lime juice.

I'm a whiskey girl for sure, the taste is more pleasurable then chocolate if you ask me ;) haha ! I'm on the same page though, i need to give it up. Whiskey + late night mcdonalds runs are killing the last ten pounds for me. no more drinking till university starts up this fall i guess.... :(

That's my girl. .. I say just drink in moderation.. When i boxed and was in the best shape of my life. . I still had a few glasses of wine as I do now. . So pointers. . what you want to do is up to you really.

Stick with liquors... vodka, whiskey, gin, etc. Basically any distilled spirit without added sugars.
Stay away from high calorie mixers, including juice.
    Always measure.
    Avoid the munchies!

I only know my boss lost a bunch of weight and when I asked him what he did differently he said, "I stopped drinking." (He also cut out his evening cookies.) So if it worked for him it can work for you.....he's 67.

The trick is to try to stick with clear liquors and clear mixers (such as soda water or tonic). The clear liquors (not the fancy flavored ones) have very little sugar and are way less calories than the other drinks. I have switched from my fun girlie drinks to a Vodka Soda with a lemon and lime wedge. It's really good, refreshing and since there is no sugar. I don't wake up with a killer headache the next day! Plus it helps keep me on track.

    Good Luck! :drinker:

Like everything else - do in moderation and follow the tips the other posters have stated. I, myself, do not drink "hard" liquor anymore - haven't for years, but I do enjoy my wine, measure it and have cut down. I also watch what I munch with the wine.
