Hi everyone I have a question.I love to go to the pool and lake and go swimming and I know swimming burns calories.I do track it in my excercise diary also. The thing I am wondering is to burn calories do you have to swim a long amount of time or can you space it out here and there and ita ll adds up?Like for example if I was to swim 1 hour througout the whole day can I put it in my excersice diary 1 hour of swimming even if the time is spaced out like 20 minutes here and so much later and so on?I am really curious about that cause if thats the case it's fine to put that in my diary , let me know so I know for now on , thanks

My guess is unless you are swimming pretty hard, you aren't getting your heart rate up enough for it to matter if you space it out.0

okay but if your heartrate is up even if you space it out would that apply?0

Yes. My doctor said that I can space out my exercise in 20 minute increments as long as I get my heart rate up. I have an injured back, so I literally cannot do anymore than that at a time.0

Yes even if you are floating around for 8 hours if 1 hr out of the a time you are moving log it in! Plus if you are playing around in there as a sport find out what it is called and log it in.0

ok great and ty so much for the input I'll definetly probally end up spacing it out then and just keep the heartrate up.I go to the pool but all of the time I don't spend in the water I like to lay out too so I figure I swim for 20 minutes get out and get some sun then do it all over again , lol0

Actually swimming for half an hour burns nearly the same as running- it is an excellent exercise where you use your whole body and it's only when I stop and get out of the pool I notice that I am out of breath. I burn about 300 cals in half an hour of breast stroke which isn't half bad! I am always starving and tired afterwards too so it must be doing something I love swimming and do it twice a week, I believe it's been crucial to my weightless as it burns so many calories.0

Incidently - if you were "just floating around" as you say- I would log it as "Swimming Leisurely" - I think you will still be surprised at how many cals you burned0
